  1. Torture in the Name of Jesus
    by Clay Evans

Many Americans stand with President Bush on virtually everything
simply because he is a self-declared Christian, a once wayward man
    miraculously turned prayerful.

"The Lord has just blessed him," televangelist Pat Robertson once
gushed about Bush, summing up the apparent beliefs of millions. "...
It doesn't make any difference what he does, good or bad, God picks
him up because he's a man of prayer and God's blessing him."

Wow. Must be nice. And you certainly wouldn't want to criticize God's
anointed leader on Earth, would you?

I guess that explains the deafening silence of the president's minions
when it comes to torture. President Bush has said, time and again,
that he does not support torture. But as is his wont, his deeds make a
    liar of him.

On Oct. 5, the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate voted 90-9 in favor
of Sen. John McCain's anti-torture amendment to a defense
appropriations bill. But Bush has threatened to use the first veto of
his presidency to kill the entire bill (which pays soldiers' salaries
and funds the ongoing wars in Afghanistan and Iraq) because he opposes
the provision to ban the use of "cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment
or punishment" by the military, in accordance with the U.S. Army Field
    Manual.

This is as much about protecting U.S. personnel as anything. If we
resort to cruel and inhumane treatment, we hand our enemies a
dangerous excuse to torture our soldiers when they are captured.

But Bush swats away such practical concerns. Evidently, God has told
him that torturing other human beings is fine as long as you are
born-again, which is all that seems to matter to some evangelical
Christians. Hey, the Crusaders and witch-burners and slave holders did
    it, right?

This is a revolting distortion of what our Christian president's
savior stood for. Sure, Jesus ripped the moneychangers in the temple
and offered the occasional inconsistent message ("For I have come to
turn a man against his father, a daughter against his mother...,"
    Matthew 10:35), but torture?

The only person tortured in the Gospels is Jesus himself, and it
wasn't pretty. Ask "Goremaster" Mel Gibson.

When the president (and his faithful lieutenants, including Colorado
U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard, one of the nine loyal lapdogs who voted
against the McCain amendment) suggests that torture is a necessary
response to the threat of terrorism, I wonder if he remembers what
Jesus told a disciple at Gethsemane: "Put your sword back in its
place, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword."

Anyone who argues that Jesus would advocate torture is torturing the
scriptures for immoral ends. As incredulous people are now asking, Who
    Would Jesus Torture?

Allard, meanwhile, recently told the Daily Camera editorial board that
there's been no torture or ill treatment of detainees in the "war on
terror"; it's all good, he says. This from a man who boasts on his Web
site, "I have worked closely with my colleagues and the current
administration to spread democracy and prevent human rights violations
worldwide, regardless of people's political, ethnic, or religious
    affiliation."

    Who Would Jesus Deceive?

When the leaders we choose say it's OK to torture anyone we like, and
destroy whole cities in vengeance (Fallujah, including women, elders
and children, in retribution for the murders of four American
mercenaries — the president should reread that whole "eye for an eye"
passage) while claiming the mantle of Jesus, we roam the same level of
earthly Hell as terrorists who proclaim that Allah urges them to
    slaughter innocents.

  2. No wonder he wants U.S. citizens to be immune from prosecution by the
    International Criminal Court.

Any nutcase that claims jesus spoke to him, is unfit to govern
    anything, nevermind this country.

  6. I once heard a tree hugger accuse a mining company of torturing rocks, by
blasting and excavating them from the ground, and it made just as much sense
as this [censored] article. And [censored] is now accepted as a scientific
term, I added it to the "Official Guide To Scientific Terminology".

Besides what do Jesus or torture have to do with Geology? Perhaps JC
formulated the rock torture theory for the tree huggers?

Dont worry, in a few years you can vote for Hillary for President and watch
her loose to whatever Republican runs against her.

Published on Saturday, October 15, 2005 by Reuters
UN Official: US Troops 'Starving' Iraqi Civilians

GENEVA - A United Nations human rights investigator on Friday accused
U.S. and British forces in Iraq of breaching international law by
depriving civilians of food and water in besieged cities as they try
    to flush out militants.

Swiss Jean Ziegler, UN special rapporteur of the commission on human
rights on the right to food, speaks, with regard to World Food Day on
October 16, about the hunger situation in the world at the United
Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, Friday, Oct. 14, 2005. (AP
    Photo/Keystone, Martial Trezzini)

But the U.S. military denied the charge and said that while supplies
were sometimes disrupted by combat, food was never deliberately withheld.

Jean Ziegler, a former Swiss sociology professor who is U.N. special
rapporteur on the right to food, said the Geneva Conventions banned
military forces from using "starvation of civilians as a method of
    warfare".

But he said that in Falluja, Tal Afar and Samarra, Iraqi and U.S.-led
forces had cut off or restricted food and water to encourage residents
to flee before assaults on entrenched Sunni insurgents over the past
    year.

"A drama is taking place in total silence in Iraq, where the
coalition's occupying forces are using hunger and deprivation of water
as a weapon of war against the civilian population," Ziegler told a
    news briefing.

Two 1977 protocols to the 1949 Geneva Conventions, which lay down
rules of conduct in armed conflicts, ban using deprivation of food or
water as a weapon of war. They also prohibit destruction of food
stocks or interruption of food supply lines.

Ziegler said he understood the military rationale of the coalition
forces who were "facing such a horrible enemy -- these insurgents who
do not respect any law of war and who use the civilian population of
cities like Falluja or Tal Afar as human shields, who keep them as
    hostages".

But he said their actions were nevertheless a "flagrant violation of
    international humanitarian law".

Ziegler said he hoped the General Assembly would "condemn this
strategy of the coalition forces" when he presents his report on the
right to food in New York on October 27.

Lieutenant Colonel Steve Boylan, a spokesman for the U.S. military in
Iraq, said Ziegler's accusations were baseless.

"Any allegations of us withholding basic needs from the Iraqi people
    are false," he said.

"In conjunction with our combat operations, we take all precautions to
ensure that the Iraqi people are taken care of, as does the Iraqi
    government," Boylan said.

"There have in the past ... been some supplies that have been delayed
due to combat operations, but they were due to transit the area once
it was deemed safe. It does not do relief supplies any good if you
have them going into a firefight."

Ziegler said that he had been in touch with British authorities on the
issue, and "a channel seems to be opening", but that attempts to start
a dialogue with U.S. authorities had been fruitless.

    of other
Nations because of the dissension that it shows.

LOL. What image DO you thing the US have ;-)

Actually I think that the image of the United States would be a lot
better if we didn't have [censored] like TBR and the people he 'snips'
from that keep posting insulting and derogatory things about the
President and the United States Government.
I see so many idiots like TBR who post how the President is doing
everything wrong and try to act as if they know the right way to do
    things.
I've heard some say that America and all the Allies should pull out of
Iraq all at once and that this is what the Iraqi's want.
They don't realize that if the Allies abandon Iraq now the "War-Lords"
would tear it apart, the Allies are the only thing right now keeping
    the limited Peace in Iraq.
These Jackasses like TBR remind me of the armchair Quarterbacks who
scream directions at their televisions even though they have never
played a game in their lives.

So leave you frigging coward, you don't want to hang around, we don't
    want you.
You actually think that some ass who runs off to some other Country
rather then deal with what's going here has any kind of credibility or
Right to say anything about the United States, I don't think so.

Hey stupid you can have your Canuck Swill I'll stick with my Miller
like a real man, not a wimp like you who runs away when he doesn't get
    his way.

At least MM has Nuts and isn't afraid like you.

That's right dumbazz, with morons like you around, it's the perfect
time to leave this [censored] of a country behind. When you elect a
redneck douchbag like Bushit, it shows us what the rest of the worls
already knows, this country is the biggest pile of [censored] there is. I
look forward to the day I see a flash of light, and a large mushroom
cloud rising in the south, and I can toast some marshmallows on the

When the leaders we choose say it's OK to torture anyone we like, and
destroy whole cities in vengeance (Fallujah, including women, elders
and children, in retribution for the murders of four American
mercenaries - the president should reread that whole "eye for an eye"
passage) while claiming the mantle of Jesus, we roam the same level of
earthly Hell as terrorists who proclaim that Allah urges them to
    slaughter innocents.
