Another walk which was decided on during a friday evening pub session....
At the layby & walking at 8am (stayed at the youth hostel the night
before). Beautiful clear weather showing off the snow capped mountains.
1st hurdle is negotiating the boggy field to the land rover track, once
that was out of the way we walked to the end of the track then headed
straight up steep grassy slopes to twisting hill and the path to An
Caisteal.
We're now above the snow line buts its only a few cm's of crunchy stuff
and soon arrive at the summit. Chatted with two chaps who's driven up
from Preston at 1am! They had a big day ahead of them.
Beinn Chabhair followed and was an interesting route compared to the
usual boggy track from the north. Straight down to the bealch joining it
to An Caisteal and then straight up to the summit. Steep grassy slopes
with some minor scrambling. No path so good fun making your own decisions.
A quick lunch break on the summit which had some clod cover by then and
then we retraced out tracks and ended up at the bealach between An
Caisteal and Beinn a Chroin. From here it was a quick & easy scramble to
the summit(s). A bit icy on top and by then the wind had picked up.
Picked up the path down to Glen Falloch and from there it was a boggy
slog back to the car.
Took just over 6 hours, a nice day out but doing Beinn Chabhair was
perhaps a bit too much. I'd probably come back over An Caisteal and
incurr the extra ascent rather than face that bog again!
I'll post the photos at some point, despite the weather I didnt get a
great selection.
