I have always thought that a thin band (like the width of a man's
wedding ring) that would clip around the top tube, used as a ride
souvenir, would be an interesting idea. Even thought of manufacturing
them, but perhaps they are already available. You could have a bit of
art work, and the name of the completed ride, i.e., Santa Fe Century -
2004, Ride the Rockies - 2005. They would be spring steel or some
other flexible material (any thoughts?) with a rubber innercoating, and
you could transfer it to a new bike.
These could be provided at no cost to the rider or at a small cost as a
portion of the ride registration. Perhaps you would need a couple of
different sizes for different size top tubes.
Just think - when you go to a ride, you can glance surreptitously at
the other bikes to see who has less bands than you do :o) <smile>
Or, you could even have bands indicating mileage accomplished. One band
for every 10,000 miles or so. They could even say, (Your Biking Club),
with 10,000 miles written on it. (Your Biking Club) could sell these to
raise money or whatever.
I would appreciate your forwarding any thoughts about this to:

Perhaps such things are currently available already. I have never seen
one.
