stay on when stationery.
I have the Schmidt SON on two bikes, which is reckoned to be a better bit of kit but costs a lot
more. Everything I've heard about the Shimano says it's quite good *enough* and is good value
for money.
For lights I use B&M with standlights, front and rear on the 'bent, front only on the folder with a
LED rear (LEDs are fine for rear if you get a BS spec one like the Cateye AU100, and the wiring
routing is an issue on the folder as it has to, errr, fold, but not much reason not to get front and
rear on a "normal" bike). Been very happy with them, good bits of kit.

bar. They appear to be cheaper but are they effective?
I have some of those too, though since I discovered dynohubs they've been on long-term loan to a
friend. A good set of rechargeables will give out more light, but the limits of a dynohub will only
really be felt at a fair speed on completely unlit roads/trails (I use my dynamo lamps on unlit
roads and only have to slow down from lack of illumination on descents). The main problem with them
is you have to keep track of the amount of charge you've got left, and every then and now you get a
set turned on in your bag by mistake or similar fiasco. With dynohubs you've got lights always
available, they're just a lot more convenient if you'll be using lighting regularly.
Though the dynohub and standlights are my preferred solution, a set of rechargeables would make more
sense for sporting machinery, or if you'll only be using lights once in a while. But I can't recall
seeing a bad word here about either the Shimano or SON hubs for general use, if you've got the cash.
Pete.
