It seems to me that my shoes are clipped in looser on my left pedal than on my right. Ie when pulling up on my pedals I can feel a slight gap between my left shoe and the pedal. This gives a slight clonk sound as I round pedal. I've checked my cleats and they are secure. What else can do this? I have the SH51 cleat with float and Shimano PD-M536 pedals. Can it be the pedals are getting worn? They are both set to the same tension. The shoes and cleats are brand new and the pedals are about two years old.

Today on further inspection I found that a bolt had actually gotten loose on one of the cleats. It just goes to show that a quick check and a thourough inspection is not the same thing 😉

I've had the bolts that hold the pedal together come loose also (Shimano M515). And, I've had this happen for no apparent reason (Shimano M959).
Well, this is just an assumbtion, but when you are at a stop, is your left foot on the ground? That cleat may be more worn from constant removal grinding against the pavement ant re-insertion into the pedal clip.
May you have the wind at your back. And a really low gear for the hills! Chris
