  1. About a year and a half ago I started doing the Atkins diet. I lost a
few pounds, but did not feel well. What's worse, while I lost a little
weight, I lost a lot more friends. I have always been a pretty happy
person, even during bad times I have always maintained a smile. I
didn't notice it myself at first, but shortly after I started doing
Atkins, I became a grouch. I was snapping at people at work, even
caused one of my employees to quit her job after being with the company
for 8 years. My spouse told me several times that I was not the person
he married and on a fe occasions, mentioned divorce, which came as a
shock to me after 12 years of a very happy marriage. He even said to
me one night "you used to be such a sweet person until you started that
damn diet, now you are the [censored] from hell". He went on to explain
that he's rather have me overweight than live with my "new attitude".
Of course, I just told him off, and walked away. I heard similar
things from friends, my parents, and many other people in my life.
While I have been a company manager for many years, suddenly my
superior at work told me that he noticed a big change in me, and asked
me what was wrong. When I told him nothing was wrong, he told me that
ihe was seeking someone else to fill my position if I didnt quit my
    attitude.

That night I came home and got into another big fight with husband, who
told me he was leaving and would be staying with his brother. That's
the night I broke down and cried. I had been a successful business
woman, had a happy marriage, lots of friends, and a good life. Now, i
was losing it all, and could not figure out why. Yet, those words that
my husband said ("you used to be such a sweet person until you started
that damn diet, now you are the [censored] from hell"😉 haunted me. I
called in sick from work and spent the say by myself, hating everything
I was and everything having t do with my life. I wanted revenge on
everyone that did me wrong, wanted to hurt people, and it took lots of
strength to keep from calling a few people and telling them off. I
went to the mall to escape from the hell I was living in. At the mall
I broke down. I went to several of the restaurants and ate all kinds
of junk food. Lots of sugar and carbs. Within hours I felt like
someome lifted a huge weight off my body. I saw life like I used to,
    and I smiled again.

I felt a little guilty, but I came home with a whole bag of junk food
full of carbs. My life had become such a terrible mess that I didn't
care about my diet. Yet, in all honesty, that's what saved me. As
soon as I gave up the Atkins diet, my life returned to normal. I am
not the raving [censored] from hell that I had become, and everyone in my
life is back. I even called the one employee that quit, apologized and
    rehired her with a raise.

I've gained back the 6 or so pounds I lost, but life is good again. I
am being careful with the junk foods, but no more Atkins diet for me.

I could not understand why I became such a [censored] on Atkins, until I ran
across several other women on Atkins. Women with bad attitudes and
women wanting to hurt others for no apparent reason. That lead me to
this newsgroup. I have been reading this group for quite some time
now, and it all fits together. I have never read messages from more
miserabe people as those of you on this newsgroup. All most of you
want to do is hurt others and complain. Just the way I was, just like
these other women I have met who are on Atkins.

All I can say is Thank God I quit the Atkins Diet.

    You people are miserable.
Dont worry, I am not going to get on anyone's case on here. I have
much more to live for than argue with you people who are as brainwashed
as I was. In fact this is my one and only message to you people. I
had to learn the hard way how the Atkins diet destroys a persons life.
I believe you all do too, But I learned, and reading this newsgroup
    confirmed what I expereinced.

I think it's the sugar we eat that makes and keeps us sweet, and like
my husband said, I'd rather be overweight than be a nasty [censored].

Well, still time to make it succeed. You just haven't had enough sugar
yet. Aren't quite overweight enough. And, well, that other thing...

    No, seriously...

  3. Well, this is kind of an obvious troll, but in case anyone takes it
seriously, I'd point out that a lot of people do get grouchy during the
first couple weeks of induction. It goes away once blood sugar and hormonal
    levels stabilize.

I remember my first two weeks of induction, 1998 (?) The first week I was
too sick to be grouchy (I later learned that I do a *lot* better with 30 or
40 g carb than 20). But the second week I was *extremely* irritable for a
few days. I remember the guy in the office next to mine kept up this
tuneless whistling and I had to restrain myself from jumping up, marching
in, and punching him out... lol! However, I maintained good behavior and
this effect was gone in a couple of days.

I have heard a lot of people experiencing irritability as well as physical
manifestations of tension, such as tenseness, nocturnal teeth grinding,
during the first week or two of induction. My guess is that it has to do
with excess adrenelin that your body produces in response to unstable/low
blood sugar levels, but there may also be an electrolyte imbalance mixed in
there. At any rate, it's a very transitory phenomenon AFAICT.

Oh, and it is true that concentrated fat-sugar mixes do have a temporary
sedative effect for many people, which is why many people become fat,
diabetic, and sick self-medicating with Twinkies and Krispy Kremes. I don't
see that effect as a positive thing or anything I'd recommend that someone
    pursue.

  5. This troll has used a different name, but the same email address to post
    before.

    Other troll post:

"I am the worlds worst road rager. I am ready to destroy anyone that
pisses me off. So, some idiot [censored] me off this afternoon and I
flipped the [censored] off. The next thing a damn cop pulls me over. I
was boiling mad and when he said he received a complaint from the
driver that I flipped off, and he saw me do it, I was ready to kill.
The cop asked for my license. I ripped it out of my wallet, and when I
handed it to the cop, I accidentally punched the cop in the face. I
mean, it was just an accident that my arm went too far out my car
window and gave the SOB a black eye. So the SOB handcuffed me and took
me to the station. I am being charged wit assault. I told the cop
that I have poor vision and do not judge distances well, and his face
seemed further away then it was. Honestly officer !!!

Do you know how great I felt smacking that SOB in the face !!!!

Now I'll just have to convince the judge it was an accident ..... "

  6. Of course this is troll and not even a good one at that. What real
person would stay on any diet plan that they claim made them feel
miserable and angry for a year and a half, while losing a whopping 6
    lbs?

  9. OK. We should all do what works for us, but just for the record, it's
quite possible to be overweight AND a nasty [censored] all at the same time.
    You know that, don't you.

All your post amounts to is that it's easier to blame external factors than

I think that is what is happening to me - I went to my OB because I was
having heavy periods, lots of cramping, shorter periods (23-26 days) and
worst of all - migraine headaches that last 2-3 days without medication. I
am now on Seasonale - BC pills that you take three months at a time and
only have 4 periods a year. After 2 weeks and a couple days - my ankles are
extremely swollen, retaining mega water. My water pills for high blood
pressure weren't enough - so now right now - I am taking another water pill
(OTC) to try and get the bloating down. It looks like I gained about 8
pounds of water in about 1 week. Thank God it is going away. I knew before
I took the BC pills that weight gain and bloating are side effects. It
isn't going to stop my LC WOE - just slow it down - at least I know I have
to work harder to lose. My big downfall right now is I haven't been
drinking enough water. That is going to change. Good luck to everyone over
the holidays and happy LC eating. Be good. You guys are great.
    Diane

  13. <snip>

    Very funny post. Thanks!

  14. It's a simple B vitamin deficiency. Take a good stress formula b
complex capsule. Two every morning with breakfast. And a couple of
1000mg vitamin c along with it. You will see a change within days. Then
go back to LC and all will be a lot better.

  18. If you only lost 6 lbs, I suspect you just began the diet and didn't
    stick with it long.
Induction always sucks. It can be like withdrawal from a drug.

I get headaches, sick-feeling, exhausted and really, really [censored].
That last for a week or so and *then* I feel better than ever and have
tons of energy and feel happy again.

It's the same with anything - quitting carbs, quitting cigs, quitting
caffeine - anything you've used enough to need your body to adjust.

If sugar and/or starch make you "feel better" when you feel bad...
well, that's pretty much the same thing as if a couple shots of booze
or a few beers make you "feel better."

In other words, it might be OK if you do it now and then, but if you
have to do it all the freaking time to "feel better" - then there's a
    problem.

  19. I know who you are. You work for the sugar and starch food services. You
are bad mouthing low carb because it is hurting the the sugar and starch
    food industry.

  20. Yeah, just keep telling yourself it was Atkins fault. Ever think maybe
it was your food addiction which you were not feeding which made you a
[censored] from hell? It's called withdrawl.
If you were on Atkins for a few months and only lost a few pounds you
were not doing induction correctly anyway. Try Ketostix and see if you
really are burning. If you are not burning in ketosis it will not work
    during induction.

Heroin addicts are much happier when they are on heroin also!
