Okay, now try to repeat your findings using an expander (or compression
cap), ala Reynolds, et al...

You see, in real life no one's going to overtorque a stem on a steerer
tube w/out the expander/compression cap installed. Well, at least no
one who's not deliberately trying to destroy the steerer tube.

Vitamin cottage guy and also a customer with a calfee with a Easton
fork both crushed the steerers but I'll admit, with the inserted
expander ala Alfa Q and Reynolds, as long as those are used-no problema
but if the racer dude thinks the Reynolds one in too heavy...or if he
uses the easton type of HS adjust that has NOTHING in the steerer, just
a doohicky under the stem...then we are gonna err on the safe d-side
with those teeny 5mm....about 1/6 of an inch. Again, would rather use
5mm spacer rather than buying somebody a $350 fork.
