10 speed and cyclocross

That was said also of 9 speed, and here in the UK, I think 9 sp is
predominant in cyclo-cross now.
There are still some luddites running 8 speed(me!), and a few on 7.The
ones on 9's dont seem to have any more mud problems than those on 7.
Once the price drops to the level that mere motals can afford, then
it'll be everywhere.

I saw some 10-speed Shimano on race bikes in the Portland, OR races
(300-500 competitors per race). The word was that 10s Ultegra and DA
worked quite well. 10s Campy has been around for a while now and it
works just fine too for racing. If I had things to do over again, I'd
get 10s Campy to be able to rebuild the brifters. I've got a couple 9s
Ultegra right brifters with "vague" shifting.

I've got 10s Ultegra on my road bike and it rocks. If I had $$$, 10s
would be on the cross bikes too. 10s 105 looks like a pretty good bet
if you are a Shimano guy -- a tad less expensive to replace and fine
quality.

In a race this past season, I ripped apart a 9s Ultegra brifter -- got
lucky it was the left one since everyone and his brother has a spare.
