  1. CITY OF CANBERRA ENTRIES OPEN

Early Entries have opened for Australia's biggest Half Ironman triathlon race and the first three
entries come from one end of Australia to the other and from the USA!

The City of Canberra Half Ironman Triathlon, Round 9 of the Road to Ironman Australia Qualifying
series, and organised by X-Tri Australia, will be raced on December 14th, 2003 in and around
    Canberra and the ACT.

The event was Australia's biggest Half Ironman Triathlon in 2002, and remains the biggest challenge
for competitors in 2003, with it's hilly bike course, but sensational swim and run legs. It's also
the last qualifying event currently calendared on mainland Australia, with a massive 250 slots on
hand for those looking to race Ironman Australia in 2004!

The field size will be limited to 1200 competitors and entry is open to licensed individual
competitors only, though team entries and International individuals are welcome.

The Ultimate Half Ironman Challenge for athletes has other big rewards also. Prize money for pro
competitors is the best in the entire Half Ironman series. Age gr oup awards, trophies and prizes
are also VERY impressive and the ultimate prize for many will of course be one of those 250
qualifying slots to the 2004 Snap Printing Ironman Australian Triathlon.

The race comprises the 1.9km Ironman Wetsuits one-lap swim, the 90km Learsports Bicycle leg over one
lap, and the ASICS half marathon over two-laps totalling 21kms. High 5 will provide the official
hydration and nutrition on course. The official hotel is the Canberra Crowne Plaza and TriTravel has
some awesome packages arranged, just call 1 800 22 50 22 ASAP, and don't miss out!

The event also highlights Canberra and surrounding areas of the ACT. The swim is in Lake Burley
Griffin, between the old Parliament House and the War Memorial. The ride takes competitors through
some of the prime forestry areas of the territory, with sensational views and the run is through the
Canberra parklands from Commonwealth Park to the new Australian Museum and return, to a gala finish
line in Commonwealth Park, where the entire race is headquartered.

The final leg of the race is the unique Compex recovery area and the traditional ice cream and fruit
    salad recovery meal!

Support for the big race currently comes from Australian Capital Tourism and Canberra Getaways,
ASICS, Ironman Wetsuits, High Five, Learsport, Crowne Plaza Canberra, TriTravel, Compex and The
Ice Cream Man mean this is an event to remember! All the thrills of Ironman in half the time
    and distance!

Race weekend will feature a sports seminar Saturday morning with Grant Giles and Ironman legend,
Bruce Thomas, there's an 'enticer' style triathlon Saturday afternoon conducted by TACT,
registration for the main event Saturday and the growing Canberra Half Expo in Commonwealth Park
both days with the big race commencing 6:30am Sunday morning.

Full details for the race are contained in the race website at www.canberrahalf.com
