I just came back from cycling in Austria and North Italy. A really great trip and I recommend it to everyone. I started out from Vienna at first going West along the Danube, which was a very nice cycle path to take although it is a very busy one with lots of other cyclists.
Then we took a train south and cycled through the Grossglockner Pass 3700m. Climbing this with a full pannier load was about the most gruelling undertaking I have done. However, when we got to the top, the view was absolutely fantastic and the descent even better. All I can say is go and do it and you'll experience the buzz although be careful when coming down off those big hills.
