Food court in Fashion Island

Speaking as a born and raised Philadelphia, I can only say you made a
good decision. A few years ago when I was in the San Fran area, I made
the stupid mistake of renting a car that trip, so one day, I drove the
car down to Stanford University, just for the hell of it. I ended up in
the student union there and the special of the day was a Philly cheese
steak sandwich.

Curiosity got the better of me, and so did hunger. The time just
happened to be around noon when I was there so I waited in line and I
ordered that so called "Philly cheese steak".

What I got was a tasty sandwich but it did not resemble any cheese steak
I have ever eaten in Philly. It was served on a French baguette and it
had little bits of pineapple and mild peppers in it, and it would have
had mayo had I not stopped the cook from putting the mayo on my
sandwich. The meat was also fairly thick slices of beef tenderloin that
were not minced, the way real Philly cheese steak meat is.

My lunch was fine, but it did not resemble a Philly cheese steak at all.

Andy, you mustn't have many Mexican joints where you live. My office
is real close to Fashion Island and I've eaten at La Salsa and didn't
much care for it. The China Grille isn't bad, but it is to Chinese
what La Salsa is to Mexican, IMHO. The only joint I like in the food
court is Fatburger and even that isn't as good as the regular stands
you see around SoCal.

Philadelphia Grill - had it once and thought it greasy.

Has a few good restaurants sprinkled around, though.
