Definitely - I've done it for the past two years, so it's becoming a
traditional fixture in my rides calendar. Haven't sent in my entry yet,
though - must do so sharpish before it fills up.

I'm doing it. Shamefully, it'll be my first Audax of the year -- I'd usually
have done a few by this time of year. I may get those southwest perms in
beforehand, though.

Martin, I presume you are doing Mad Jack's? A couple of club colleagues
are doing it and I might join them, if possible. In light of recent
discussion on the AUK list, I may even ride over to Hailsham. (Haven't
worked out how far it is yet, though.)

I'm also hoping to fit in the Kennet Valley Run the following weekend.

Ergo the Invicta could be my fourth start of the year - but possibly my
first finish...

Yes I am; riding to the start and a lift back to make it 160km. If it
is nice I shall break out the nice bike.

Dave, have you seen the discussion about DIY perms and riding to
events? It's now possible to declare a DIY perm that contains a
calendar event. You need the OK of both Sheila Simpson (the DIY queen)
and the calendar event organiser. You then obtain your own controls
riding to the event, ride the event, and get your own controls back.
You retain your brevet card from the calendar event, thus excluding
yourself from it, and use it with your other controls to claim the
permanent instead.

I'm in a similar boat - it would be easier to set off on two wheels in
the middle of Friday night, rather than attempt to get there by train.
As it's on a Saturday, I won't have use of the car in any case.

According to the RAC online route planner, the shortest route from my
house to Hailsham (avoiding motorways) is 97km. That would make a nice
300k DIY perm if I could be bothered to organise it. My only qualm about
doing that is the small matter of 2050m of climbing - which wouldn't be
so bad if it were spread out over the whole of the 300km.

Yes, that is what has inspired me to consider the damn fool idea. Only
thing is I'm not convinced of the wisdom of riding 314k with 2050m of
climbing crammed into the middle 120km section - especially as I
wouldn't get the AAA points for it (AIUI).
