trasnmission signals from the belt to the watch.
If anyone knows it would be great?

I don't think it would make any sense for any of them to have encrypted
signals. The only data transmitted is the existance of a heart beat so
unless the belt transmitted continuously (and so had a short battery
life) the precise modulation scheme and any encryption would be
irrelevant to an eavesdropper.

beating or not, hence the need for encryption. ;-)

Polar do a coded transmitter, the T61, but I think the purpose is for
ensuring you don't get leakage from others in the peloton, I don't
think its like triple-DES or something - the guys in the black
helicopters are still gonna be monitoring it.

Indeed. This belt comes with the more expensive polar HRMs. It'll usually
say on the info page on any site you wnat to buy them from "coded transmitter"
That's all you need (and I think what you meant anyway)

Yeah - it doesn't need to be "encrypted", but each transmitter
needs to work only with its corresponding reciever, otherwise
peletons and training runs are going to cause trouble.

Polar have a "coded" system (or at least some of the mid/high end models
do). Whether it's encrypted according to a strict definition of that
word is unclear, but what it does enable is for a specific receiver to
be able to pick up "its" transmitter in an environment where there may
be other signals (i.e. a gym, peloton, rowing boat, whatever).

of contradiction that they are VERY good at jamming Cardiosport HRMs.

Polar mid-range and high-range have coded transmitter and receivers. For
example, my Vantage NV does. Coded transmission is error-less: either it
works or it doesn't. When the unit starts recording, it looks for a coded
transmitter and - if it finds it - it uses coded protocol. If instead it
does not find one, it reverts to non-coded transmission. When the signal
gets jammed (e.g. when passing nearby Swiss electric train lines) the
unit stops recording and waits for the signal to come back. After a timeout
it reverts to non-coded. The coded/non-coded status is shown by my unit on
the screen by a little heart. When it goes in non-coded status it is not
possible to revert (in the same session) to coded: I must stop and restart
the recording.
Other features of the coded system are: less interference when in a tight
pack and (but I am not sure this is only for coded) the possibility to set
a shorter detection range.
I am not sure that coded means - for the Polar - encrypted but from the
result it looks like this may be true.
Polar coded chest straps are clearly marked as such. And are more expensive
than other brands'. And are not user-serviceable (but this is another
story).
