Hudson Valley route?

Harriman station is right near some of the most beautiful places to ride in the Hudson Valley:
like Seven Lakes Drive starting from Lake Kanawauke (or at least Lake Tiorati), Bear Mt, West
Point, Storm King Mt Highway. But looks to me like if you ride straight to Maybrook, you would
miss all that.

One idea is to ride thru those great places first, then go to Maybrook. For some ideas for roads,

roberts-1.commapOpen ↗ First connect from Harriman station to the "Seven Lakes
to the River" route (click on the green oval that says "SLR"😉, then connect to the second half of
the Bear Mt / Newburgh-Beacon Bridge loop (click on "BNB"😉 to Cornwall-on-Hudson, then somehow to
Maybrook. Getting onto SLR from Harriman is a big climb, and there's three possible ways to do it
and I'm not sure yet which ones I would take or avoid.

From Maybrook, you have a choice of whether to go north along the Hudson River to Poughkeepsie, or
in the Wallkill Valley toward New Paltz, and from New Paltz whether to cross the Hudson river at
Mid-Hudson to Poughkeepsie or at Kingston-Rhinecliff.

Next the question of whether to ride further north along the Hudson River -- perhaps to visit the
renovated New York Central station in Hudson, or if you think Rensselaer - Albany has railroad
significance -- or perhaps just to enjoy the farms and orchards of eastern Columbia county.

Or whether to go east to the Harlem Valley line, where you could meet the end of the active Metro
Norh line, then continue north checking out various station sites and rail trail sections in the
midst of beautiful farm country. Or further east to the Housatonic River valley and the
Berkshires. Clicking around on that main route map should give some ideas for pretty and fun
riding in those areas.
