Chris Horner attacked the bunch and bridged to a group of no hopers AFTER race leader Floyd Landis stopped to change out a wheel for a broken spoke. That makes him a world class WEENIE in the world of pro bike racing for breaking the unwritten rule that competitors honor the leader in such a situation, and not use these opportunities as a way to stealing the win. The chatter in the bunch the rest of the ride to Santa Barbara was what an ASS CLOWN Chris Horner was.
crit PRO (suffered in the back of the bunch)
PS Pretty impressive that the WEENIE bridged a 45 second gap, though. And all those guys could have stayed away and fought for a stage win, UNTIL Chris Horner showed up. Then Phonak had to chase, and the break was 'doomed', in the words of Landis.

How the hell would you know what went on at the front of the race?

Because he watched the live streaming coverage from his computer in his parent's living room.
Being a wannabe bike racer, after all.

Right, on the way back to the hotel, the day after the stage in question. POSER!
Saw the ultimate Fred bumper sticker today on a car. I couldn't believe the damn thing. "Lance rides a TREK and so DO I" bet CP has one of those posted on the side of his computer tower and bedroom door. Bill C

What's a Fred bumper sticker?
Fred
Anyone got a good, comprehensive, definition of "Fred" as it relates to cycling, or is this still "We know it when we see it!"? Bill C
You're probably a Fred if: -you have a mirror mounted on your helmet -you use Mr Tuffys and Slime so that you won't get flats -you have a stem that points way up in the air because you don't like being bent over so far -you have a Spenco seat pad -you wear a pro jersey over your beer gut -you buy everything (including your bikes) at Performance -you read Bicycling magazine -you pay the local bike shop to do a "tune up" on your bike, because you can't work on it yourself, even though you're not really sure what that means. -you're not sure who that Eddy Merckx guy is that you've heard people talk about
Ah, I could go on....

A Fred bumper sticker would be perfect on this:

What happens to used Euro team cars? I'm sure engines and gearboxes are thrashed by the end of a season (driving for six hours in second and third gear, etc.), but I always thought it would be cool to get one cheap and throw in a new engine and gearbox.
Albright responded:
If you could pull that off, then you would without a doubt be the Supreme Ruler of All Freds, no one could touch you. You could laugh at the puny little freds who just wear a world champs jersey or the Limar Mapei helmet or who don't shave their legs. You would be untouchable. I can picture it now: you pull up to your next ride in your Saeco team car, step out of the car all kitted up, and take your team issue Cannondale off the roof. You would be the man!
Do the main stream sports have this type of arrogant attitude regarding their fans who are buying merchandise with the sponsor's name on it? Do we want the industrial parking lot crits. attended by riders and families? Or do we want the high visible events with the crowds (Freds) that the sponsors want to see?
Remember this arrogant attitude when the TOC or another American Pro Race becomes history.

That's freekin ghastly. I gag just reading that.
And they sell bikes to people like that.
Ron
If Trek didn't sell them bikes, they'd buy them from Giant, or Orbea, or worst of all, not buy a bike at all. At least some of Trek's product is made in the US of A. At least they're buying a bike. With EXTREME luck, they're also riding it. And it's not like they're bad bikes. There are no bad bikes. Bad roads, yeah. Bad riders, well, I've been one (call me a Fred but I've hit parked cars TWICE in one commute without being under the influence of anything except really, really bad temporary ADD). Bad traffic: I think we can all agree we've ridden in bad traffic. But a bad bike? "Unsuitable" maybe, but even the newcomer on the lower end front suspension major bike shop brand (hint -- it begins with a "T"😉 hardtail MTB with step through frame and "compete with the Walmart bikes" flashy paint job and suitable for use with sneakers pedals survived the cycling touring/lunch oriented riding groups 40 miler that STARTED with a climb up Mt. Helix (it's real name -- we really were screwed by the route sheet from the start).
The SCARY part is that I think they sell the bumperstickers to people like that....
I think the guy just wants a cheap car -- the team graphics would just be a conspicuity aid. And who'd want to carjack a "Jelly Belly" -- I can't think of a patrol officer giving that one a miss....

You crack me up. The only blackberry you've had in your hands this week was the blackberry shake you roller-skated out to a customer at the local Sonic. I'm amazed you have enough money to pay for cable to see ESPN to write your ever-so-witty reports.
Keep living the dream, loser. Maybe one day Floyd will give you his autograph.
