1. I've been looking at different types of barends for my CRX1... yes, certainly the lack of hand positions on a flat bar is a disadvantage

Currently I am running a Titec carbon fibre short bar ends from my MTB on the CRX, but I am finding it a little too short... despite its lightness.... I find standing climbs difficult without barends

Anyway, I have ordered a set of TransX long barends ($25)... weighing in around 160g total... unfortunately they are no carbon fibre ones that are the longer style

I just couldn't find any longer style (ski/boxxer) barends that were carbon fibre.

Is it more popular to have short barends at the moment....??

Also, let's do a count of who has barends on their FBR?

2. Some of the BBB models are (at least partly) carbon fibre - you can see them on the Cecil Walker web page at:

cecilwalker.com.aucategory69 1.htm

bbbparts.combbbparts.com

BBE-11 FiberBase - 150 mm, 124 g, ~$AU55

3. have a look at the Pro (Shimano) http://www.pro-bikegear.nl/2006/

4. I used to have barends on my mountain bike but I removed them some time ago. They sound like the same ones you bought. I like them but given I don't use them that often I will most likely place smaller ones on the flat bar I hope to buy soon.

yeah but the L bend isn't long enough

6. What about time trial bars?

7. Have Trans X bar ends on my hybrid ( do not ride it much these days ) & short 110mm straight carbon, thumb rest at the top with alloy bar attachment on my FBRB.
I find these carbon BE with their finger mouldings on the underside ideal when standing or alternate hand position when seated.
My bar width is 590mm, which is a little wide, so I slide the grips, or should I say westled,in 23mm each side, then reattached the BE leaving the 23mm overhang. I intended to cut off this OH when convinced the width was right but now find that the OH is ideal to support my hand when holding the BE.
The BE came with the bike & have no name on them so I do not know the brand.
IMO the short BE suit my FBRB as you do not need to sway from side to side as much as the hybrid needs to ( due to Q ) when "into it" off the saddle.

Sounds to me you are using the L bend to put the whole hand on??

I have short bar ends on all my bikes. I started out with some really (ridiculously) long Tranz-X ends, and cut them shorter. These days I have short, straight almost stubby ergo ones.
