As it happens you would have done if it was posted by private e-mail. I get Mailwasher to filter out
all e-mails with the word 'ebay' in the body (unless they come from someone in my Friends list). But
I don't bother with spam filters for usenet.

The first recumbent I ever test rode (about 9 years ago now) was a Linear, similar to this one. It
was a very nice bike to ride, as I recall, though I'm not really interested in owning a LWB now.

My next bike will probably be a Challenge Hurricane, though I intend to try the Optima Stinger and
maybe a couple of others as well.

The only recumbent I've ever fallen off^W^W ridden, a Kingcycle, had a stem and handlebars rather
like that. My feeling? In a front ender, you're going to get some very nasty injuries, whereas with
underseat steering you're going to be thrown clear. Mind you, I've never ridden an underseat steered
bent, so I may change my mind when I have.

When I rode a friends new Speed Machine recently, that was what I liked least about it. On the
Street Machine I'm used to doing a rolling dismount, slinging both legs to the left of the boom and
then letting myself be thrown into a standing position when I brake. That's not an option with fixed
OSS, though some OSS' are hinged so that the handlebar can be moved/thrown forward.

I advised my friend to reposition the large bell that he had mounted in the middle of the handlebar
(actually with his agreement I got my tools out and moved it there and then), and to put some pipe
lagging on the bar where his chest would hit in a crash. He'd done that by the next time I saw him.

I find USS more comfortable anyway (and it looks cooler IMHO). The Hurricane has a USS option, I
believe the Stinger does as well, so if I bought one of those bikes I'd probably have it with USS
rather than the standard OSS.

(BTW I might not reply to any more posts for a while now, the Bristol juggling convention is next
week and I plan to go and pitch my tent on Friday evening. There's a fair chance I'll be home at
some point during the week reading news though.)
