    Dude, who are you?

More importantly, there's only two of us left!

Interestingly, I've met 4 of the other ten 10 in person. We need another MFW

Y'all better start treating me and John just a little better, or, IT'S OVER!

I'm doing some sort of extended motorcycle tour this summer.

Basically because my wife and I are separated and if I'm going to have a
mid-life crisis (how can I be immature and juvenile all my life and then
have a mid-life crisis) it wouldn't be complete without a motorcycle
    tour.

Me, my 1980 GS1000G, my new inflatable kayak that can do Class III
rapids and my camping gear. Coming your way...

I always keep my helmet on when I hop from the bike onto the
    inflatable.

How about coming down to Killeen the first weekend in May for Masters
Nationals? I'll bet Elzi will be there. Anywho, I'm thinking about
flying from Dallas to Orlando and heading down to Key West for the
following week. My buddy in Titusville has a boat so we could camp
out on one of those islands on the gulf side of Key West. Fish and
snorkel during the day, do the Duvall Crawl at night. Oh Yeah!!!

Maybe Lyle was a meany-head to him.

BTW, I bought "Flexible Dieting" and wish I hadn't. I wish I'd bought
"Rapid Fat Loss" instead. I already own UD2.0 and did one depletion
workout once and decided it wasn't for me. (I didn't have it as bad as
Slackmistress, who, IIRC, was tossing cookies in the parking lot
    afterwards.)

Nina will try anything that someone says will make her lose fat ...
except that she wants to keep her hefty jugs. She doesn't realize
    that no such option exists.

You, on the other hand, will try anything that Lyle thinks up. Have
    you purchased any dinitrophenol?

No, but he says I should fling monkey poo at myself and I've been trying
    to find a good source...

    Dally

I have a GUARANTEED way to lose weight.

Run the cross country course at Vanny 3 times a week. If you can run
the whole thing 3 times a week and not lose weight then you have 3
    mouths.

Are you doing one of the up-coming cross races ?

I've thought about doing them but not sure -- I'm focusing on the Thursday
night track races at the moment. BTW, if you like intensity, I'd recommend
    these.

In case anyone asks, the first two meets went quite well, PRs in the 3k, 800m
    and mile ...

Nice job. No one accuses YOU of being BOP. :-)

I thought it interesting that your time would have been the winning time

I thought it interesting that your time would have been the winning time

Yes, they're self-seeded by time. They have someone call out times starting
from ridiculously fast, then gradually going through the spectrum, and when the
guy calls out a time you think you could run, you are supposed to step forward.
When there are enough people, they are bundled into a group.

When people run in the heats they're supposed to run in, there's very little
overlap. Sometimes, for various reasons, they don't. For example, in the second
meet, there was an unusually deep field in the 3k, so some people jumped into
the first or second heats even though their times didn't justify it -- I
suppose they figured everyone else was lying, so "adjusted" their times to
compensate. I remember thinking that, but thankfully I hung back anyway --
because I would have been close to dead last in heat 2, especially if I went
out with the fast guys. Another thing that happens is that sometimes people
arrive late, and jump into a heat that's way too slow. For example, in the
first meet, a guy run sub 5 in the last heat (he should have been in the 3rd)

    Looks enticing!

Yes, looks like there'll be some fast guys in the elite races too. Alan Webb
(top miler) is supposed to be doing the 12k.

    Quoted message said:

Nice! Looks like you smoked the mile but that Milos guy came outta
    nowhere eh?

Yeah, they usually have a bunch of fast guys showing up. It's a humbling
experience to finish 12th at a road race with 5000 people, and then show up
to a track meet with a much smaller field, and not even be fast enough to step
up to the line with the 12th fastest guy !

    Quoted message said:

What are the Olympic guys running the 1500 in these days?

The record is 3:26 (or 3:43 for the mile). The fast guys are all in the low
3:30s (3:33 and faster -- about 3:50 for the mile).

It wasn't that long ago that the first sub 3:50 mile was run (70s I think).

Up until very recently, 55 seconds is what the top guys would run for a
finishing burst in a mile race, 4 laps at that pace is really quite impressive.
That pace is a hard sprint for me.

    Cheers,

It would not be my hardest 100m sprint time pace but it is
distressingly close! I can only assume that they have a combination
of training and genetics that allows for full out exertion without
running out of "wind". I think they are probably essentially running
their near top speed the entire time.

For example I think you or I could keep up with them in a 100m dash
but they'd keep dashing for another 1400m!
