But "certain selected" includes Roman Catholic which is quite large.
Their position is that the two stories of creation in Genesis and the
one at the beginning of the Gospel according to John are not
contradictory to each other. They say that the Bible teaches religion
not science. They say the Bible tells us that God created not how and
there is no necessary contradiction between the Bible and evolution
"Now"? Certainly in the 50s the ideas above were "a long established RC
official position".
In the 60's I heard priests/ministers say they believed the same things.
They were Anglican Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran, Presbyterian,
Methodist, Unitarian, etc. I'm not sure these were all official
positions of the denominations, but some were and these are large
denominations.
