This may be a physiology question......
I bought a heart rate monitor for spinner's classes about a month ago.
In the class I can't get my heart rate over 171 and many times only
around 162. My anarobic threshold is around 155. (I'm 51 years old). In
spineers it's difficult for me to stay above the AT very long.
But..
when I ride with the Saturday group, I stay over my AT for tens of
minutes at a time and go as high as 175 on hills. I don't feel nearly
as bad as in spinners class either. In fact, clicking along just above
AT is no problem.
My theory is that spinners classes are in air conditioned rooms at
about 72 degrees F. I leave pools of sweat on the floor beneath the
handlebars. The Staurday rides are arounf 55 degrees F and I am just
right. I suspect my body is having trouble cooling itself in the
spinners classes.
What say y'all?
