Actually, My First Audax P+nct+r+ occurred in hissing rain on last
year's Cotswold Corker, ten yards from a bus shelter. Passing riders
were heard to opine that this was cheating.

They are put there to provide a farcility for the local yoof to practice
their bunny hopping.

They can then tick the BMX park box and apply for further EU funding.

I think it's the remains of the previous shelter. They obviously
couldn't leave that on the farcility so they built a new shelter-free
shelter with no sides. Note the appropriately sized bench so that
people waiting for a bus can sit there without taking up more than 2
inches of room.

Or maybe it's like that so exhausted Audax riders won't be tempted to
sleep there.

Note also that a cyclist proceeding along the farcility in an orderly
manner and finding it full of people waiting for a bus is not permitted
to cross onto the pedestrian side of the line.

Ahem. The bus shelters round my way have "seats" like that. The
/official/ line is that they're to stop /tramps/ sleeping on them.

Actually, this is a serious piece of government policy. They're going
to put one of these outside every nursing home in the country, and then
pay a bounty to cyclists to mow down as many expensive-to-keep old folk
as possible, in a kind of environmentally-friendly version of Death
Race 2000.

It'll save the NHS a fortune, and have the side effect of greatly
reducing the number of bus-users, thus saving public transport subsidy
as well.

I applaud the governments efforts in employing severe psychiatric
patients in the creation of cycle lanes. At least I know when I'm 95
