  4. StarDate: March 30, 2003 Coma Berenices=A0 A "hairy" constellation climbs the eastern sky this
evening. It has a long history -- and an important role in the recent history of astronomical study.
The constellation is Coma Berenices. It represents the hair of a queen of ancient Greece. According
to legend, she sacrificed her hair to Aphrodite after her husband returned from battle. Aphrodite
placed the beautiful locks in the sky as a sparkly pattern of stars. Coma Berenices is also home to
a sparkly array of galaxies, known as the Coma Cluster. The galaxies are all about the same distance
away, so they allow astronomers to study many galaxies that were born together and that have evolved
together. This gives them a better idea of how ALL galaxies take shape. The Coma cluster is one of
the biggest and heaviest around. It spans about 20 million light-years, and contains thousands of
galaxies of all varieties: little puffs of stars, big spirals like our own Milky Way, and a
smattering of the biggest galaxies of all -- giant elliptical galaxies much bigger and heavier than
the Milky Way. Coma Berenices is well up in the east in mid-evening. It's about half-way between the
bright stars Arcturus and Regulus, which highlight the eastern sky. The galaxies of the Coma cluster
are too faint to see with the unaided eye. But small telescopes reveal several of the cluster's
galaxies -- beautiful decorations for Berenices' hair. Script by Damond Benningfield, Copyright 2003

  5. Well apparently you do have lots to say, too bad nobody can understand it though. Or like myself
    cannot be bothered deciphering it.
