Thanks Gemm, you got it, they sure did cut him ...and he was clarly showing great passion for cycling, and that's fantastic to see...guess it was too close to the bone for their producer and 9's need to get on with selling ads.

Two years ago he was the main attraction for the "mark webber
challenge" which was an adventure "event" down in Tassie, which had
kayaking, MTB, some bushwalking and quite a lot of cycling. I was
involved on the periphery (girlfriend was an event mangler for the
thing and I tagged along helping out here & there and taking a few
photos) and yeah, he loves his bikes.

Good interview with Mark Webber at Cycling News (I did post this the other day as well on the celebrity cyclists thread but this guy really does ride!)

AUSTRALIAN Formula One driver Mark Webber will be a patron of the Amy Gillett Foundation being launched in Melbourne today.

The foundation has been set up to honour the memory of Australian cyclist Amy Gillett, who died when she was hit by a car while training in Germany last year.

The foundation's aims are to promote safe and harmonious relationships between cyclists and motorists, provide an annual scholarship for emerging female cyclists and assist Gillett's five teammates injured in the crash.

Webber said he was moved to become a patron of the foundation because he was so profoundly affected by Gillett's death.

The other patron of the foundation will be Tour de France legend Phil Anderson.

The inaugural recipient of the Amy Gillett Scholarship will be announced at the launch of the foundation at the RACV City Club.

Two of the survivors of the accident, Lorian Graham and Katie Brown, will be present at the launch together with Sports Minister Senator Rod Kemp.

Webber has been in Australia for the Melbourne Grand Prix.

leaf out of the European book and pay more attention to cyclists on the
road.

Webber, who admits to being a huge cycling fan, said while motorists in
Victoria had improved in their attitude towards cyclists in the last
five years, the rest of the country was not so patient.

"Sometimes road users may not have an idea how much room a cyclist
needs," said Webber, who is a patron of the Amy Gillett Foundation,
launched in Melbourne today.

"I've ridden my bike in many different parts of the world, the culture
is different in Spain, in Italy and in the UK, and in Victoria the
culture is very, very good.

"But there's probably other parts of Australia where (cyclists) are not

I rode around in WA for 4 years, and it was pretty good. Lots of good
paths, and apart from the sterling hwy at peak hour (which was a
disaster for anyone trying to use it) it was ok.
