Yep... Pretty insane. We get credit card apps all the time. I scissor
them. I did like the Vodka-infusion.com site. Gawd, it's 3am. Ramsey
pounced on me and woke me up.

You can always have the credit bureaus put you on the list for no
pre-approved credit card applications. I don't get them any longer.I
requested that after a id theft incident.

It's rather scary. We use the burn in the outdoor fire pit method to
destroy these types of offers and anything with personal information.
The papers get shredded then are used as fire starter for when we have
    campfires.

I think it's only prudent nowadays. I just "upgraded" my shredder
(well, Beck did for Christmas) to one that eats plastic credit cards and
    CDs.

Here's a snack recipe. I haven't made it but it looks like it could be
in my Christmas gift packs next year. Maybe sooner! I like the sound
of it. Rob would like the popcorn part.

    http://www.coffeeexpert.com/popcorn-recipe-35.html

    Popcorn Medley
    (with shredded wheat)

    Ingredients:
    6 tablespoons butter or margarine
    1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
    1 teaspoon seasoned salt
    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    1 quart popped popcorn, unsalted
1 can (3 oz.) chow mein noodles (about 2 cups)
    1 1/2 cups bite-sized shredded wheat biscuits
    1 cup pecan halves
    1 teaspoon basil
    Directions:
In a large frying pan, melt butter or margarine. Stir in Worcestershire
sauce, salt and garlic powder. Add popcorn, noodles, wheat biscuits and
pecans; toss gently until well-mixed. Sprinkle with basil.
Spread out on cookie sheet and heat in 250-degree Fahrenheit oven for 45
    minutes, stirring occasionally. Cool.

I shred papers with usable information on them and them put the stuff
in my composter. I try to have a good sized load of kitchen scraps to
    top it all off.

It's sexy - BUT, the clear glass isn't good for spices because they
deteriorate in direct light - I like ones you can't see through -
they're on racks on the inside of the pantry door.

I always use a permanent magic marker to write "remove my name from
your mailing list" across any personal info and on the application and
put everything into their return postage paid envelope, including the
envelope and all pieces of paper that came with it. Then send it back.
My sister even puts other junk mail in with it, but has a time trying to
    close the envelope....lol.. .....Sharon

It's effective if you tape it well to a brick then send it postage due 😉

Some people have way too much time on their hands. Be that as it may, if
I were in charge, those unsolicited credit card applications would be
banned. Further, the practice of increasing customers' credit limit on
any existing account without a customer's approval would also be banned.

Patented nonsense -- on both accounts. Returning junk mail to sender
is futile and a waste of your time and the USPS' resources. Shred it,r
burn it, or get off everyone's list; it's that simple.

You and your sister are wasting your time. Your bogus returns are either
handled by automated machinery or minimum wage employees. Either way,
your returned mail simply gets dumped into a trash can. These companies
that send out stuff know that trick and they simply add the cost of
bogus returns into their marketing budget.

The best way to handle credit card applications you do not want is to
    shred them.

Too funny! DH is a member of an organization and is one of three with
signing authority for cheques. As a prank he actually signed in very
legible writing *Micky Mouse*. The cheque cleared! They get their
cheques back and this particular cheque is framed and on their wall. I
never would have believed it without seeing it. Cheques go to a
clearing centre where they are electronically cleared. No human ever
sees them. No wonder cheque fraud is so easy!

Not at all. I shred every credit card application that we receive
(sometimes more than one per day!) as well as all those unsolicited
checks from our current card companies which make it "easy to transfer
    balances" from other cards.

I wish the laws were more consumer friendly and that the card companies
had to take financial responsibility for all the potential fraud they abet.

This is probably a good time to remind everyone living in the US that
you are entitled to one free credit report from each of the three

Doesn't surprise me a bit. My card sayds "check ID" and hardly anyone
does. When they do, I thank them for doing so. Once bought a $1600
printer and the kid neither looked at my ID or my sig.
