  1. When I opened the bag last night I got a pleasant surprise... the
'fishy' smell had dissipated in the fridge overnight and it didn't
smell bad at all. It was actually two and a half pounds, in the form
of two HUGE fillets with the skin still on and the backbone pulled
out. No smell, no slime and nothing to indicate that the fish had been
maltreated in any way. I rinsed the fillets and sliced them and then I
put one into the freezer for frying at a later date, and I baked the
other one on a bed of tomato, onion, red pepper and celery, with lots
of lemon juice. I would have liked white wine but DH hasn't fallen off
the wagon in fourteen years, so booze is out.

When it was baked I had a tiny piece to taste (good stuff) and I gave
a little more to the cats for a special treat. We'll reheat the
fillets tonight for dinner and it should be a nice change.

I also told DH that if he ever gets the urge to buy raw fish again, to
only get ONE fillet or ONE pound, whichever is the smaller quantity.
There are only two of us and he won't eat fishcakes or fish with rice
so there isn't anything to do with leftovers!

For those who don't like cod-do not read!

I don't like fish left/overs myself, but I had made cod - thawed cod (a
Portuguese cod recipe) that I decided not to throw out the leftovers. I
used a zip-lock type square container. As it was not full, I filled it up
to the top with rice so I would not get freezer burn on the fish, even
though the fish did have still sauce surrounding it.

After it being in the freezer for several days I thawed it in the
refrigerator, and removed it from the container, scraped off the rice, and
microwaved it at 1/2 power until it was heated thru. It tasted as good as
    it had when made.

There was not a LOT of fish to contend with, but I was surprised that it was
as good as it was. Maybe because it wasn't fabulous to begin with and I
    didn't expect alot.

I wonder if you realize the impression you've left. When you thought
the fish was going to be not so good your thought was to bring it to
the Sunday church buffet. When it turned out to be better than you
thought you kept it for yourself. Your choice, of course, but since
you've told us about it now I wonder what you took to church instead.

If it was the Church of Scientology, this
would be perfectly normal behavior. :-)
