mechanism of 'statin' drugs on CRP

  1. I have read most of the material included in the PDR regarding the
    pharmacology of various 'statin' drugs in blocking the synthesis of
    cholesterol in the liver. I have also read that these drugs lower the serum
    C Reactive Protein, a marker for CAD. Is the mode of this reduction of CRP
    an inhibition of the synthesis of CRP in the liver or is it a peripheral
    blockage similar to NSAIDs on platelet adhesion etc.?

    Because the reduction in CRP also happens with dietary changes that
    lower cholesterol, the mechanism is likely linked to the
    pro-inflammatory effects of high levels of LDL (specifically oxidized
    LDL).
