I rode it inbound on the 7th May. They had one marshal visible from that direction and one sign. A row of witches hats directing you up the right fork would have been better.

This being the first time I've encountered this unexpected diversion, it wasn't too bad, but it could have been better with little effort.

Next time I'll try to remember to stop and take a picture.

Our riding group encountered this on Sunday morn. Most disconcerting. Um, a letter to the authorities is one tact - but does anyone have a dig camera at the ready? Create a nice little powerpoint presentation of the "problem"?*

I wasn't too happy about it when the tennis (Kooyong classic or
whatever) was on over summer, but haven't noticed anything since. What
was on in early April?

Davis Cup. I was driving through there after a day's play (had a tank or
something to pick up), and noticed a photographer with what was almost
certainly over ten grand of lens (I'm guessing a 400mm f/2.8L, at
$16,000 RRP, or maybe a 600mm f/4L at $17,900) slung casually over his
shoulder. Scary just how casually these guys treat their equipment ...

True to the latter, not so sure about the former. Depends on whether
they're self employed.

Now I'm trying to find a photo a group of professionals took, with a
large number of expensive Canon lenses being used to create a coffee
table with a lamp on top. Mildly amusing when you realise that the glass
cost enough to pay a significant chunk of a typical mortgage ...

Many years ago, I bought some Canon photo gear. Later ran into an old mate who told me he was working for Canon. Mysteriously, my name ended up on their pro photographer register. I got offered loans of some of that serious glass for taking photos at various motorsports and other events, and if any of my gear went in for a repair or service, I got loan gear that was worth about ten times what my stuff was worth.
