I always wonder when someone brings up a point about Bush, and you
then bring up something that Clinton did, are you saying they are both
wrong? Because that's all it points out to me, places where they both
messed up. It doesn't negate the fact that Bush did wrong; was that
    your intention?

That type of argument is like

    "Bob shot someone"

"Yeah, but don't you remember when Don hit that guy with a bat?"

My W-2 arrived early, and I filed in late February. A few hundred dollars
refund from both Federal and State.

I'm far too impatient, I want to know as soon as possible
how it's going to be ... if I owe I just mail it in at the last minute.
They're actually done within about an hour of receiving all the
    forms.

Yep, no sense in letting them have your money before you have to.

I had my federal return /almost/ done in late February, but I had to
wait to give my broker a chance to send an amended 1099. (they always
send a late amended 1099) When the new 1099 came, I procrastinated
until this weekend even tho I knew I would get a refund.

    I did find a $676 deduction that I had overlooked. Woo-hoo! If I had
sent it in in February I probably wouldn't have found it. Although I
had the federal return almost done already, it still took me all evening
to finish everything up, double-check everything, do DD's taxes, state
    taxes, etc.

This is what I bought with my refund. I picked it up late in
    February.

Considering the deadline unless you filed for an extension was Midnight last
night, yeah, you are the only one 😉

Another note: there isn't a state tax here but some legislators are lobbying
hard for one. It keeps getting voted down. That's a good thing since the
sales tax for everything (including food, clothing, prescription drugs) is
9.75%. One of the highest in the country. And of course they aren't
proposing to reduce the sales tax if they institute a state income tax.

Personally I was worried because I had to take some early distributions from
my IRA in order to make ends meet. I had them take out 10% but then there
is the penalty for early distributions. I squeaked by, thank goodness.

Actually, it's tonight (Monday night). And in some places, it's even
    Tuesday night.

It landed on a Saturday this year, thems the rules. Even still there
will be crowds at the post offices open till midnight, I'm sure.

Nope. The deadline is tomorrow night, on the 17th, cause the 15th was
    on a weekend.

We always owe, but send in early. I don't like the calculation tax
departments do on penalty for failure to pay on time. We have missed sending
in by one day taxes and were penalized $80 on a $600 bill (locally - not
IRS), so EARLY is my game.

Between state and federal I had to pay a little more than $1,900 this
year, but I do mine with Turbo Tax and designate the payment be
deducted directly from my bank account at the last moment... no point
wasting a stamp... they're up to 39¢ now ya know. It feels odd how
before I retired I always received a refund and for three years now I
had to pay... probably because now I have no witholding... I could
designate witholding but I figure why let the grubbermint use my money
    all year free for nothing.

  19. Last one? Hardly. I've got all day to do them,
but I have to mail them before I take my first
pain pill (major dental surgery on Friday,
and it still hurts) because I can't drive after
taking one of them, so I'm trying to finish them
right away. (Actually I'm not trying to finish them,
I'm reading the net instead. But sometime this
morning the pain should exceed the motivational
    threshold.)

I just filed the other day. Between my wife and I we will be getting back a
    little more than $600.
