I had something like that which I used to use on my boat, cannot remember if I got from a marine warehouse or from a custom truck store though.

Like you, I thought it was a Rubbermaid but there isn't any logo on the thing and I can't find one on the Rubbermaid web site. Also haven't been able to find one anywhere else. bill g

This actually looks like something we used to use in the trucks and on the D6 when I was a kid on the farm. Only then they were made of some sort of wire coils covered with a plastic mesh. The coils used to flatten over time. I can see where this was probably the next generation, but haven't seen anything like it in awhile. My guess is that if they're anywhere, they'll be in the Southland somewhere. You'd only see them in the North during high summer. We used to get the wire ones in hardware and farm equipment stores, and at the Grange (or another organization called the "Grain Growers," which was a politically conservative version of the Grange).

Doesn't look all that great to me. I do think you guys are on the right track with bus/truck drivers. I saw these all over Central America a few years back, being used by bus/truck drivers!

Scott, the plastic mesh over the metal spring is not the one I'm looking for. I can still buy them. The one I"m looking for is a thick plastic mesh, two pieces attached with 1/4 inch space of air between.
Dave, The NAPA store isn't there any more. I stopped at various NAPA and other parts stores for a while and never found another one. But I'm almost certain it was a Rubbermaid. I keep thinking that surely someone else makes a similar one but haven't been able to find one. I have this one zip tied together as the orig "hinges" gave up a few years ago. I'll have to look in my yardcar. There may be one in it. maybe you could make a good one with some parts ;-) bill g

Bill, I've contacted Rubbermaid years ago and they told me they never made that seat cushion. My wife thinks I'm crazy still pursuing this after so many years. Thanks, Dave
Bill, I forgot to thank you. Thanks for posting a photo at that cushion as the webshots site. I've copied it, but would appreciate it if you would let it remain there for a while. I included that link to my e-mail to NAPA. (The enlarged photo is about 75K, and I didn't want to send it as an attachment.) I've sent a letter to NAPA and am waiting to hear back from them.
If I could locate the manufacturer of that seat, I'd order a lot of them. I spoke once with a bus driver in Philadelphia who knows someone who goes to junk yards to find old ones. There's a lot of people who really like that cushion. I have no idea why they would stop being made.
Dave, Yeah, I've looked all over for them. I bought it when I was frequenting a NAPA store that a co-workers's husband worked in and I have a recollection of getting it out of a window display. But that was a few beers ago and I was doing a lot of shade tree work then so it could have been another parts place.
The thing that irks me is whoever made 'em didn't put any logo on 'em. Probably the marketing genius responsible for why they aren't available anymore. Like the marketing genius who put Whoopee Cushions on the "Impulse Buy" racks hanging off the canned beans shelf of the WinnDixie I was in today. "Honey, lets just get the Whoopee Cushion instead this time. Remember, you have a family that lives in the house too." Also had Jesus nite lights hanging off the same display. I opted for the veggy baked beans...but I digress. Anyhow, you're in luck.
