Although someone's already beat me to the "your wheels will go out of round" gag... there IS a down
side. Some shock forks don't take well to being upside down or even vertical, and leak. If yours
doesn't, then it's a great way to store the bike.

By storage, I was assuming it was a length of time. I don't care how strong your wheel may be, if
you hang it by the rim for more than a week there will be damage.

I have two racks that extend from the floor to ceiling. Each has hangers for two bikes, but I can
get a third on as well. There is actually a dual benefit here. They hold the bike horizontally and
the brackets can be angled so that you can use it as a maintenance rack.

They are about $100 with two brackets. You can get them at Organized Living.

The other option (but expensive) is GarageTek (www.garagetek.com).

full of sh!t...

Then do whatever the [censored] you want. You'll learn from experience. I have never been in a bike store
(LBS or other) that has anything other than metal bike racks (usually two rows). Go ahead and hang
away. I'm sure your LBS will be glad to sell you a replacement wheel when you take it out for the

Now I have never hung up a bike by one wheel, but it seems to me that if the spokes are properly
tensioned there wouldn't be a problem, even on cheap rims. Correct?

Wow.....this is an explosive group...like being at a Jerry Springer taping....LOL.

Thanks to all for the advice. Since I value my bike and don't want to test the "one wheel" method,
I'll use 2 hooks and store horizontally.

I have two bikes hung this way. I did use two hooks for each bike since the hooks were to flexible
and their screwed thu plywood ceiling which is the top of a cage. Works out fine.
