As I said, it's a big city. According to the LAPD there were 100
homicides in L.A. in the first quarter of 2006. Seems a lot, but the
figure for first quarter of 2005 was 132. Hence the comment, "pretty
peaceful nowadays." When I go back to Alaska I watch out for bad
weather if I'm out on a boat and I watch out for bears in the woods.
Here in L.A. I watch out for sudden irrationalities. When I post in
rfc I have to be alert for the surprisingly large number of people who
lack any sense of humor. There are hazards everywhere...... -aem
