OT: San Diego/Newport Beach/Laguna

Hey, I'm going to be in southern cal from July 2 - 10! Maybe we should
ditch the non-foodies, get together and feast.

What a concept; eating healthily for a week! Is your perception of
eating healthily, seaweed? If so, there certainly would be a decrease
in the weight of your average healthy eater :-) Open up your mind and
take a walk on the wild side. Health food takes a bad rap!

Southern California is a good place to get your feet wet and try a few
health food restaurants. But I suppose if your mind is closed to the
concept, it would be a waste of your money and my time to recommend
some places. There's always McDonalds, Taco Bell and Burger King :-))

If I were you, enjoy the sun and the ocean. It's hard to go wrong
eating anywhere if you have the sun and the ocean in front of you.
Newport Beach is not too shabby :-) Enjoy!

check out the Orange County Register website for specific places to
eat...remember you've got the entire SoCal coast down to San Diego to
cruise.

I don't need to lose weight and I eat healthy all the time. I'm a diabetic
with coronary artery disease. IMO health food sucks unless it's in a
recipe for something I'm making. I'm a simple, Midwestern kinda guy and
like my food to be real ;0)

There is a Sur La Table in Newport Beach, if I remember correctly.
Check it out, if you don't have one in the St Louis area. Just bring
plenty of money.

Michael, try Wahoo's Fish Taco http://www.wahoos.com/index2.html which has
a wide variety of healthy menu options, but tasty! Or if you're in Laguna
Beach (I used to live there) try Hennessey's pub

also in Laguna a cheap, but relatively healthy place is Taco Loco. God, I
miss Taco Loco. It's a small place, right off PCH, you can get a mushroom

are smallish, but damn, I miss that place!

florists, shops, restaurants, art festivals.......... God, I loved it there!

Hennessey's Pub has gotten waay, waay trendy with the twenty-something
crowd. The last time the DH and I tried to meet there for lunch, we
turned right around and left. Really loud and crowded.

It's on PCH, just a couple of blocks before Thalia St., IIRC.

If you like coffee house type places, go to Diedrich's on 17th in NB (may
be Costa Mesa ... the line changes a lot around there).

The Heidelberg Bakery in Laguna Hills is worth a visit. From NB, you take
the 5 south, exit at La Paz, turn right, left at the signal into the
strip mall near Joann Fabric, right into the parking lot.
