Look pedal failure

dude, before you get into all the legal b.s., figure out whether this is
a manufacturing defect or not. so,

1. where exactly did it break?
2. where are the pics?
3. how much does "your friend" weigh?
4. what tool was used to fit the pedal, and was the spindle surface
damaged at all?
5. what is the mileage/time period involved?
6. does the pedal see unusual service in any way?
7. is there any corrosion?
8. etc.

if you can conclusively rule out any fault of the user, /then/ you can
get into the legal stuff.

Or something else in play here. Look has been making pedals for 2
decades and don't have the rep for broken axles.

OK - everything is installed fine. These were both new Look pedals and
regardless of history, they broke in half AT THE AXLE!

That is not normal regardless of history.

I know of someone who used LOOK pedals for years until he broke one
during a triathalon and broke his pelvis and got his attention in a big
way. You can break anything, anytime but would agree that two failures
is a little peculiar. I have LOOK pedals on three bikes and never had
a failure although I have broken a crank arm.

If you want any sensible answers to this question in rbt
you need to give more details. Like, what model of pedal,
steel or titanium axle (Do Look even make any Ti axle
pedals?), what crank was it installed in, what's your friend's
weight and riding pattern, how long did it last before
breaking, where did it break, that sort of thing. Look
pedals don't have a rep for breaking axles, which is why
people are asking for details.

In general, if you've made your mind up that you need
legal advice, you will have to talk to a lawyer rather than
a bunch of mossbacked bicycle mechanics and engineers.
They (we) are more interested in diagnosing failures, and
aren't qualified to give legal advice anyway.
