Look in the new Kona offerings. I think they even have some bikes in a "Clydesdale" section.

CLYDESDALE Designing for individuals is the Kona way of doing things. Some time ago, we noticed that
cross-country bikes were generally made for the same body types; lean guys who go fast. What the
bike market (us included) didn't pick up on (till now) was that big guys go hard and fast as well
(at times harder and faster). So we decided to design a ride that would allow these people to really
hammer their bikes the way that they wanted to, without the fear or grief sometimes associated with
using ultra light equipment. This evolution of bikes is new for Kona this year.

Bianchi Denali. It has a steel frame, disc brakes, and a bomber for $1150.

ok. I rode and enjoyed two new marins the hardtail eldridge grade $1k and the FS east peak $1400

I have a fondness for the Kona Hoss dee-lux which runs about $1200 as well.

Are you looking for a hard tail or a Full suspension? It will be difficult to find a decent FS bike
for under $1000. I have had good luck with my Enduro (with some issues) but they are around $1500
New. Consider getting a used bike.

One thing you should look out for is any bike which advertises light weight.

If you are looking for a hard tail, I think you have a lot more choice. I like my wife's Rock
Hopper, although the original component specs were pretty sparse.

Well, if you already have all the bits and bobbles from your old frame to hang onto a new one, then
you are in luck, because you can now have a primo ride for exaclty your price range, as this fellow
