Just found out the work collegue got the rego details. Question is,
should I report it to the cops, if only to cause her grief for a very
poor attitude? Not sure trying to claim for a bike computer is worth the
hassle. Work collegue saw the whole thing, and suggested I was going a
bit faster than I thought when I hit. Guess I don't recognise cars too
well, it was actually a black Honda Accord.

If you've got a witness, then I reckon push it to
the cops and let them decide (which feel will be
to let it go - to much other stuff on their plate,
I'm sure). Are you sure the only damage is the
computer? Have you checked your frame for front
damage? It doesn't take much of a front bingle to
bend a frame, especially around the head tube.
Look for wrinkles or cracked paint on the underside
of the downtube near the head tube. A bent frame
can still ride OK if the alignment is alright but it
is still weakened.

I say report. If you hit your forehead, how's your helmet? Are you sure you're OK and not going to wake up with a headache tomorrow. If you report it you've got a better chance of getting any medical costs which MAY arise covered by no-fault insurance. Hopefully you won't need to.

My tale of caution is a car accident many years ago that put my back out of alignment. I didn't know at the time and only found out when I ruptured a disk a few months later in an inocuous event. There was no traceability back to the car accident because it wasn't reported so I had to cover all medical expenses (the gap, at least).

I seem to have managed to get my lower forehead below my helmet, above
my left eye. It's sore and I have a headache now. Don't think it's
anything serious though. No scratches on the helmet.

Yeah, you got me worried so I went to the basement and had another look.
It seems okay. It's an all alloy frame, so I don't have CF bits to be
unsure about. I'll take a proper look at home, and just report it to be
safe. I'm going to ask them to call her and explain her resonsibilities
when pulling out into traffic..

I'm sure you could find a bike shop that would advise you it is
damaged, unsafe to ride and you require a new bike. Your friend did say
you were going quite fast, after all. Get even - claim a new bike. As

Unfortunately, this appears fairly typical of the attitude problem some
road users seem to have. This is also why politicians build us bike
paths, they are in fact saying `Get off the road ya mug'.
I've encountered exactly the same degree of stupidity and
bloody-mindedness myself, so I sympathise, but we have to fight it
somehow. I've yet to find the right balance between submission and
aggression myself, but I feel it has to be there somewhere.
But stay on the road, if any of us simply give in to this kind of
idiocy, we're all lost.

Your neck hurts. Go get it checked out. You can feel it. It hurts
So now you have an injury accident. It HAS to be reported to the cops
and they HAVE to take some action

Oh and send her the Drs Bill And the bill for the damaged bike computer.

I found my computer! Or more correctly, my workmate found it in his
bag. After the SMIDSY (except without the sorry bit) I went to the
basement to shower - workmate was already in the shower and in my
semi shocked state it would seem I had taken the bike computer off
my bike, and for some bizzare reason placed it in his open backpack
on the bench. V. happy to have it back!

Is it just me, or do Hondas seem to contain a higher proportion of idiot
drivers than most other cars? My brother used to have a sticker on his motor
bike saying "Volvo Driver Aware", but whether I'm in the car or on the bike,
it seems to be Hondas that I have to watch out for, not Volvos.

Must be just black Accord drivers, because I could not imagine anybody driving a Black Honda Civic being an idiot driver like that, which reminds me I better go and wash mine.

Huh?

The fact most bike paths are actually promoted as getting cyclists of
the roads and making both safer in the funding documents and the like.

In fact of course they do neither and in the main are not useful for
actually going anywhere. THe odd exeption exists
