    cheers,

30 miles running; 2 miles beach walking and dune climbing. Total of
    32 with a long run of 6.3.

Included in the mileage was a PB 5K, third in age division (55-59).
Elvis Presley Festival 5K. Great course mostly very flat with one
monster hill at about mile 2.5. Perfect weather, 70F with very low
    humidity (a rarity in Mississippi).

The 50th Aniversary of the 1956 Elvis homecoming concert in Tupelo was
also fantastic, if there are any fans out there.

Race season is essentially over for this part of Mississippi, so I
have to find something to focus on. All the races in this area (about
eight 5Ks and two 10Ks are crammed into a three month period and then
it is over till mid fall. Too hot and humid for summer competition.

Thinking about a late summer 10K in Boerne, TX, in conjunction with a
family visit. Anyone run in that area?

goals: take a cutback week, then forge ahead. Upcoming races: 3-mile and
4-mile sometime in July; 15K Sept 2; marathon Sept 30. Not that I feel
remotely capable of racing right now.

    Su: 18mi (8:23)
    M: AM 6.2mi (9:11), PM 3.8mi (9:23)
    T: AM 13mi (9:21), PM 6mi (8:33)
    W: PM 10.1mi (8:24)
R: 10mi incl 8x strides but still amazingly slow
    F: 12mi (9:13)
    Sa: 13mi (8:59)

    total: 92.1 miles

I'd planned to run 6 miles Friday after work (bringing the total to an
f-clown-w 98), but by midweek I'd had enough of aching shins and constant
fatigue, so I took a zero on the 6-miler and left it at 92 for the week. I
wondered (not for the first time) if I had dug myself into some hole I
couldn't climb out of. Saturday's 13 started out dog-slow, but the last 4
miles gave me some hope. And then this morning, a gift: driving to meet my
Sunday-run friends I noticed that the leaden feeling was gone from my legs.
I'm sure it will be back, but I was glad to feel normal for at least one
    day.

This coming week I will 1) take a cutback to 72 miles, and 2) visit my
massage therapist, who's been away for a month. I hope that does the
    trick.

    good week all

    Tue: 3.0 mile (4.8k) road
    Thu: 3.0 mile (4.8k) road
Sun: 3.2 mile (5.1k) trail (My long run for the past 2 months!)
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    Week total: 9.2 miles (14.8k)
    Year total: 188 miles (302k)

Currently 237 miles (381K) (as of this minute) BEHIND on my NEW 2006
goal of running "only" 1000 miles (1609K).

Training: Better, but still quite light. I'll planning to jump to 12
miles (19k) for the coming week, then hold myself to adding 2 miles (3k)
per week until I get back to my "normal" mileage.

    Racing past:
    5K road race: finished

    Racing future:
Tuesday: 1500m and 3000m track races - Goal: See what I've got without
    reinjuring myself
Sat: 5000m track race - Goal: approach or beat crappy track PR, keep the
other guys for getting series points too easily
Peachtree Road Race 10K in 4 weeks - Goal: attempt course PR

    Misc goals:
    Lose weight

Greetings, rec.runners! Please tell us about your training
    week and goals.

you bet.... here was my week:

    su-Ottawa ING Half Marathon, 1:55:44
m-no run, stretched lots, relaxed, a little walk
    t-same as monday
    w-easy :20 run
    th-easy :30 run
    f-no run
    sa-no run, weights workout
su (today)-:40 swim workout (intense), might do a triathlon training
brick in an hour or two (bike to run)

GOALS: get into the tri training full-hog and do this thing! got a race
(Olympic distance) on Aug. 5, and i must be ready for it. no more
messing around. this means far fewer rest days (just one a week) and i
must manage the workouts so i don't end up with ITBS problems again
(the cycling and running in tandem often seem to lead to the
condition). might be a matter of bike fitting.

tri training: i'm looking at a weekly Monday brick workout (bike to
run), tues. off, wed. long run, thurs. bike, fri. med. dist. run, and
two swims over the weekends. would be nice to keep a weights workout in
there on weekends, but i might just let it go til after the race. two
months of solid tri training will keep me in tip top shape.

    Cam

  11. Goal: Get my lardbucket self in motion again.

I had a yearlong case of burnout after finally finishing the Boston
Marathon last year. Then just when I thought I might be back in a slow
but steady groove, last month I got a detached retina, and I spent 3
weeks not running at all, just taking a walk here and there. This week
I was cleared to run again, so off I went, 25 pounds heavier than I
    was in Hopkinton.

All totals include some walking, some more than others.

    M: DNR
    T: DNR
    W: 3 slow
    T: DNR
    F: 3 slow
    S: 4.2 slow
    S: DNR

Total 10.2 miles. Biggest week in a month.

I agree with your philosophy of just grinding out the miles, and backing off
now and again until (and hoping if!) you can get used to it.

When I was younger, I could get up to 100+ and feel ok, but now my limit is
    75-80.

If and when you adapt to the grind, will you back off on miles as you ramp
up intensity? This is what I like to do.

Got to train today with Doug and a few of his ultra friends. One of them was
doing 7 laps on this hill today, and though hiking the ups of the last few,
that's still a killer workout. My quads had enough coming down the 4th time.
Skipped Saturday run to accommodate longer run Sunday.

Goals: June 18th Mt. Greylock half marathon, July 30th Escarpment trail
    run, Vermont 50 mile Sept?

Mt Greylock should be a good early tune-up race for Escarpment. It's on
trails and starts with a ~2600' hill in ~3 miles, then rolls down the next
9+ miles to the finish. Training seems to be going well this year, though
I'm still too fat, but lighter and in better shape than this time last year.

Ah, I'd love to get to where 100+ feels ok. Right now 85 feels ok, but
trying to sustain anything over that makes me tired.

The plan is: a 72-mile week, then 4 weeks of 100-105 at whatever pace I can
drag myself around at. Then, if I haven't died, I'll drop back to 75 and
    begin the "strength" (ha!) phase.

Mo PM: 15.0 First truly hot (87F) day of the year. Long run a day
    late,
having sat out Sun with lower back pain. Felt fine today.

    Tu AM: 4.55 recovery
    PM: 4.25 recovery

We AM: 9.00 easy, 6x20" strides; feels like stride length is

Th AM: 9.50 5x840m, 1x1280m; still too slow but at least I managed to

lb this AM after postprandial cappucino last night,
    further
confirmation of my milktose allergy/intolerance thing.

In the context of training for Boilermaker in 5 weeks, this wasn't the
ideal time to increase mileage. And I don't plan to log high 70's
    again
for a while. But hey, I felt like running a lot. And I did much of it

My running's been so bad lately that it's not even worth "splatting."
Last month I ran 13 miles. However, I did bike 130 miles.
Hoping to get that changed this month.
