  1. This month, Woman's World Magazine features "The Da Vinci Diet" as this
    month (or is it week) special insider tip for the lady readers to gain
    more and better diet secrets and melt away pounds.

    Even though there appears to be serious arithmetic in what follows, you
    can just view it superficially.... (What do you expect from Woman's
    World Magazine anyway?)

    THE DA VINCI DIET --- WHAT IT IS

    30% Fat, 20% Protein and 50% Carbohydrates. That is pretty much it.

    Well, there is the now standard "Good Fats and Good Carbs Only" clause.

    THE ODD TIE TO DA VINCI

    Secret clues ...

    Da Vinci knew about both the golden ratio and Fibonacci Numbers.
    Fibonacci was an earlier Italian (around 1200 AD) mathematician and his
    name has been associated with a series of numbers.

    0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34, ......... 6765, 10946 .....

    Add the first two numbers to get the third 0+1=1
    Add the last two numbers to get the fourth 1+1=2
    Add the last two numbers to get the NEXT... 1+2=3, 2+3=5, 3+5=8, 5+8=13
    , 8+13=21, 13+21=34 ....... and on and on.

    The Greeks knew about the golden ratio which can be written as :

    Golden Ratio = 1.61803
    and it is easier if we just stop here talking about it and take it as a
    given.

    For big (Fibonacci)numbers the ratio of the (N+1)th Fibonacci number
    divided by the Nth Fibonacci number approaches the golden ratio --
    exactly (well, converges to the golden ratio).

    34/21 = 1.61905 which is a fair approximation to 1.61803...

    Da Vinci Diet Connection ??????

    The ratio of the Fat to the Protein is 30/20 = 1.500 which is "sort of"
    an approximation to the golden ratio 1.61803.

    The ratio of the Carbohydrates to the Fat is 50/30 = 1.600 which is also
    "sort of" an approximation of the golden ratio 1.61803.

    So, because of the golden ratio and Fibonacci numbers being known to Da
    Vinci and sometimes used by him..... we can call the 30 Fat, 20 Protein,
    50 Carbohydrates the Da Vinci diet. [Sure we can] :-)

    This diet magically incorporates both the Fibonacci numbers and the
    golden rule.

    Therefore it is great. You will lose a gazillion pounds on it.

    Man, talk about really stretching a bunch of unrelated facts to make a
    catchy sounding diet which coincides with an unrelated trend.

    LOL! Well, I think those women's magazines have to come up with a new
    diet about every other month. And tying a diet into the latest hyped
    movie is as good a way as any to sell magazines, I guess.

    No, this diet isn't going to work for much of anyone. But then none of
    those from previous months' covers do either. The point is to sell
    magazines, and for that it will likely be effective.

  3. LOL - I agree, I think it's actually kind of lame that they just wanted
    to make some kind of tie-in so they could sell more magazines because
    the movie came out this month. And it probably will sell more, because
    people will be interested in how it ties into Da Vinci, without really
    paying attention to what the diet is. It doesn't sound like it would
    work exceptionally well, certainly not better than anything else.

    tricks such as this "Da Vinci Diet".

    I find the whole business pretty disgusting.

    And then, there are bunches of false experts of every kind.

    For the most part, it doesn't take much more than a business card that
    says you are an expert in diet to be an expert in diet, at least in the
    eye of the average citizen.

    And, we get a lot of "False Information" passing through here, as well
    as the occasional hate messages that hate one form of dieter for being
    different. Just being different can bring on the hate.

    The whole diet thing is unsettling.

    Better yet, how about if they put all Americans on the same retirement
    plan that they give themselves?
