Bike equipment, which light? how about computer?

If you want a battery headlight (4 X AA's) the Cateye El-500
is very good, but it won't illuminate the whole road. To do this you will need a 5 - 10 watts of power, the Cateye I think is only 1 watt.

For the rear light I would recommend the S-Sun ss-120r, 3 led, 3 x AA's that can be focused.

I've tried the Cateye, single LED-based HL-EL500 and was unimpressed. While it's pros are that the LED lasts forever and provides for long battery life, I found the beam too dim and too focused to be useful. The only battery-powered light I've found that's barely usable to see by (vs. been seen with) is Planet Bike's 5000X. More info in an Amazon review on this page:

I have to say, though, for $100, you could probably get a brighter, rechargeable setup. (FYI, I do use NiMH rechargeables with my 5000X headlight. If you go w/ a AA- or AAA-based light, you might want to invest in those, to save money and the environment. Consider getting a Lightman strobe for your taillight. Their blinking frequency is a bit low, but they're insanely bright and are visible from a much wider angle than any LED-based blinker I've ever seen. (For the record, I haven't seen these S-Sun blinkers before and will check later if they're available in the U.S. I'm intrigued.)

Looking at this page eddys.compage.cfmOpen ↗, the Light & Motion Vega interests me, since it has around 6 feet of light only from reviews I read the mounting is really awful. The idea of even brighter lights (like ones used for night MTB) looks promising, however they might be too distracting for others.

Also, I don't really like lights which comes with battery as big as water bottle.

At this time, what I look for is the angle of the beam, the beam distance, the intensity of the light, the bulkiness, and the battery life (4 - 6 hours or more are ok with me)
