To be able to safely and pleasurably ride a bicycle from Boston to San
Francisco is one of the main goals of the National Bicycle Greenway
(NBG). Former bike store owner,

Mayor Tom Menino's send off on April 28, will stop here to help Boulder
Mayor Mark Ruzzin, city officials and local bike and green advocates,
show why Boulder needs to be a stop on the NBG route to San Francisco.
The lead rider for the 5th Annual National Mayors' Ride, Campbell has
already been celebrated by TV, radio, newspapers and crowds, sometimes
numbering in the hundreds, in 14 of the 32 big cities he will have
visited as he calls for a bikeway that connects these population centers
to one another. From Denver Mayor Hickenlooper's reception, Scott will
be led by legendary HiWheel cyclist, Steve Stevens, who will be be
towering above the road on his 1887 Penny Farthing. Ruzzin will also
receive nationally acclaimed Denver muralist, Chris Krieg
(chriskrieg.com), and his 13 year old son, Will.
Almost 30 years ago, Chris watched as a priest said Late Rites over his
brother and NBG Director, Martin Krieg. Chris had driven the car which
had left his sibling clinically dead, paralyzed and in a two month coma,
before he then went on to pen the highly respected book, "Awake Again",
the catalyst for the National Bicycle Greenway. As Martin writes the
sequel, ³How America Can Bike and Grow Rich², he will be biking across
the nation with on an 1881 Penny Farthing next summer, he is finding
many parallels between the Lincoln Highway, and the National Bicycle
Greenway. First billed as an 'Appeal to Patriots' the Lincoln Highway
brought the unabated car sprawl that is choking America today. ³The NBG
sees building a bike connection between San Francisco and Boston as a
way to inspire a war against the new enemies that have resulted from
our love affair with the automobile, the overweight epidemic, wars for
oil, and time wasting and stress inducing traffic jams,² says Krieg.
