If you hang around a dodgy IRC channel long enough, someone is sure to
send you a picture of that. :-)

We can push him off while he's waiting at Doncastertown.

Octopuses don't like astro turf much. That's a *great* piece of trivia
to drop into conversations. I must remember it.

I have got to say this - this week the testosterone levels (ie chauvinism and sexist comments) have been scaling the heights. It's beginning to get offensive guys, so can we tone it down a bit.
Lama, I know you are an animal, but I find the comments attached to the pic (which is bad enough) offensive.

fair enough..
In Jono's defense - it really was a link to his new bike... (which I have seen in person... niiiice!)..

The original URL is incorrect. If you were to remove the "sized"
substring from the URL you will get a picture of a Felt carbon fibre
road bike.

i didn't check out the original link. The nice thing about presenting anything as a link is that the reader has choice whether or not to access the link. Posting an image, without warning, gives the reader no choice.
I don't really care where the link goes (and I assumed it was to a bike pic, which is why I chose not to check it out). Providing a link results in a layering of "filtering", which is not a bad thing.

Us USENET readers are wondering what you are all talking about. The
link http://darb.net/photos/anonymous/DSCF2447.sized.jpg is to a Felt
bike.
Or am I just being slow?
Of course, someone could be playing funny games with referrer headers
which may be loading something funny for you guys who like to combine
newsreaders with your browser (eg, cyclingforums)

Nope, I don't get it either. Both the direct link and the linked
picture in cycling forums was to a.....carbon fibre Felt. Not sure what
other people were seeing..?

All I ever saw was a Felt carbon bike, and I followed the link.

Lama's post came (via cyclingforums not usenet) complete with image, unfortunately not of a felt bike 😉 Seems there was an issue with the link via the web-based forums.

Ah yes "Hotlinking not permitted. No soup for you. Please ask if
you'd like to hotlink".
I don't know which is worse, using someone elses images and hence
bandwidth in IMG tags (I'm looking at you! cyclingforums.com), or
changing content based on the referer header instead of just giving a
40x error. I hope whatever test they are doing doesn't ban "deep
linking" all together.
