It is a contraption to keep the cattle inside, guess the owner of the land
does not have faith in that people would close a gate. No doubt a gate would
be a lot easier to get through.

That's what I expected; it made total sense to me. All it takes is one
twit to leave the gate open and you get to spend all day trying to find
your cattle...and hope none got out onto a highway.

hehehe... when I first saw it, I thought of was some weird Swedish "North
Shore" style stunt. Took me a few minutes starring at till I noticed the

Yep, by the way we are not too keen on passing cattle, sometimes the young
bulls like to play or show off or worse some really big animal feels that
you are a threat to his cows.

Young bullocks are the worst, they're crazy and try and play catch the

Lots of stiles in the UK, as mentioned it takes away the risk of cattle
escaping. You get good at shouldering your bike and climbing over them.

I've met some grumpy bulls on the trails a few times myself. MOST of the
time you're right. Just show no fear and you're ok. I've even done some
bunny hops the rattle the bike a bit and yelling to get them to move
along too. I've only had a couple that really held their ground and made
me choose another route. After I try all my tricks, if he's all pumped
up, pawing and the ground, and throwing head head around, I'll find
another way around!

Weird. They are fairly common around here. I think they are great
because there's never the contentious issue of a rancher pointing a
finger after a gate hasn't been closed by someone (damn hikers!).
