As long as McEwen and Evans get along, I don't think the team will spilt.
And as far as I know, the two are mates. Wasn't it McEwen who brought Evans
to the team in the first place, to be their GC guy?
I hope they can make it work, but McEwen's right in that it's going to
be real tough to provide enough support to both of them to win the
yellow and green. If it's close at the end and comes down to KNOWING
you would've won if they had supported you, but didn't then how do you
deal with that? You don't get a lot of chances to win the Tour, or the
Green, especially if Boonen actually gets a train together.
Maybe Quickstep should hire Cippo on as a consultant.
I see Boonen being a lot more like Zabel than McEwen, and think with
the right lead up to the sprint they could burn out McEwen. That said I
think McEwen is the best out there right now at picking his way through
and jumping the sprint for the win. He seems to just have an amazing
6th sense for finding a lane at the last minute. Petacchi is fast but
McEwen is incredibly gifted at reading the sprint and making it work
for him. He may do more, with less than anyone I've seen.
