Hello everyone!...well, after reading hundreds of messages here, spending unknown hours at websites, calling bike places, and visiting several bike stores in my area, i've decided to order the EZ Sport LE 'bent with over $500 (that's with 10% off...🙂) in accesories. I had no idea that I would need that much, but what I'm going to be using it for, the owner of the shop said I would need them all. I plan on taking some long rides (at least 50 rt with most on paved bike paths, but some on busy streets.) I didn't get to test ride the exact one. In fact, I test rode/drove a uss (which costs $100 extra to put on) and I think the one I was allowed to ride out back in the parking lot was just an ez1. I presently have a 10-speed Gitane touring bike that is over 30 yrs. old and has never needed a tune-up. But the place I'm buying my 'bent has free lifetime service including tune-ups once a year. Do most buyers of 'bents buy that many accesories? I shouldn't have to worry about all the extra weight though since I'm a very trim athletic person. I'm so excited because I used to take long bike tours with a group, but got so sore on my bottom even after about 5 miles or so. Which is the best way to adjust those mesh straps so they don't dig into my back? I noticed that when I was riding in the parking lot. In Arizona, where I live, bicyclists get a LOT of flats, so I'm having my tires "flatproofed" by him for an extra 40. It isn't slime though. Has anyone else flatproofed their tires? And is it hard to change a flat? I never had one all those years of riding my touring bike, but then I wasn't in AZ, but Ohio where there wasn't so much harmful road material. If there is any other advice you can give me with this first 'bent, it would be much appreciated. Thanks! 🙂

Your dealer offers USS on an EZ Sport? Who is the dealer and do they have a web site with pics?
I might have bargained a bit on the accessories, like ask for the 10% discount to not just count at
the initial purchase, but to go forward a bit, so that your accessory purchases might be dictated a
bit more by real need. You could maybe have started with a day bag (probably something that would
fit over the seat back), some water bottle holders, your flat protection, couple of tubes, a pump,
and some tire levers. But whatever.johnn riley 1 at rogers dot com

Usually quite easy, if you've done it once or twice. Carry a spare innertube where ever you go.
Re-flats can be a real nuisance though.--

Congratulations and welcome to Bentville!
Accessories on our single bikes and tandem include: bike rack and panniers (alternatively, a day
pack hung on the seat also works well), bottle cage, tire pump, spare tubes, tire patch kit, tire
irons, any necessary Allen wrenches, chain tool, crescent wrench, hand wipes, latex gloves (for
those messy chain adjustments or fixes), cable and lock, local map (when I'm trying to explain how
to get somewhere to the tourists, or just if we want to take a new and different route), change for
a pay phone (though less necessary in these days of cell phones), and a $20 dollar bill (good as a
tire boot or taxi fare or when you forgot your snacks and you desperately need something to eat!).BTW, you can get a lot of the bike tools on those multi tools, such as Topeak or Park.
We've got Slime in our tires for prevention of flats due to goat heads. Maybe the "flat proofing" is
Mr. Tuffys? I used them years ago and they actually caused a flat in the tire, but I think they've
improved the material since then.Happy trails!

Hi John,
The dealer is in Scottsdale at the Bike Emporium. I don't think he has a website though. I decided to go with ASS (not sure if this is the acronym...lol) first, then I can pay the extra hundred later if I want. He said he has been custom making those since they have come out. I believe he can do any bent that way.
That's a good idea about going forward, but I think he will anyway. He's a really nice guy and knows his bents. He told me that he has put together at least 60 EZ Sport Le's.
Thanks for the reply. 🙂 -

Hi Bryan,
His name is Doc. He's been in business there for ten years. There were shops much closer, but I never met anyone with more knowledge about bents or any bike for that matter. And no other dealer offered me lifetime free repairs and maintenance.

I'm from N Scottsdale. I practiced taking the Greenbelt last weekend with my touring bike. It is a great paved path and can get on it close to where I live on FLWB. It goes all the way down to Rio Salado or at the end of Tempe Town Lake. It is probably about 30 miles one way. You can email me at [email hidden]. Thanks for the reply. 🙂

Any special accessories? :-)
Hi Risto,
I guess one of the special accessories (and the most expensive at $135) would be the lighting system. The batteries (nimhy) go in the bottle holder. It has three different illuminations and lasts about 4 1/2 hours per charge. Another is a foot pump with gauge, a well-lit computer with 17 functions, a 105db air horn that gives you 100 blasts on a compressed air charge (can't wait to use this one! lol), a 100 oz. Bell insulated water bag that fits right behind the seat, and a front and rear wheel quick-release lock (by Quicklink/Veratomic).Did you find out the cause? Hopefully not some weird medical condition :-/
Yeah, the cause was the super hard seat that those DF touring bikes had 30 years ago...lol.

LOL Don,
I love your sense of humor! 🙂 Well, in addition to the items I've already listed in previous posts, you can add the following: (Oh, the flat proofing (not Slime) costs 40/pr.) two fenders, a nice large bag that hangs on the back seat, strobe light for the back, set of special straps to hold my tennis bag behind my seat, pedal straps (not toeclips per se), 2 cages and water bottles, 2 mirrors that attach to the ends of the handlebars, a car rear rack, a can of lube, a tube, and a tool kit. Thanks for your reply. 🙂

I don't know what he calls it, but I believe it is something that he may have developed because he guarantees it and I've never heard of that type before. He said he doesn't like Slime or some of those kevlar ones as well as this. If you go to kevlar, then your pressure is reduced which means more rolling resistance. These Kendra-west tires go to 100+.
Happy trails!
Thanks again!

reading the Usenet and shopping online, in most cases... I'm sure they are way beyond $500, if we

Lon HepCatHi Lon,
Thank you for the welcome and thanks for the great tip! 🙂 Do you count your rpm's or will that 17 function puter do it for me? Doc told me that it is a 27 speed '04 model, but the 2003 model says 24. Regardless, the most I've ever had was ten and that is on my 30 yo DF Gitane. So what gear do you usually start out from if it is relatively level surface?
