A suggestion for responses to Trolls

obvious and sometimes well known Trolls. Something else I have noticed
is that often times people reply saying "Please don't feed the Trolls"

I see there are a couple of particlarly active Trolls on a number of
these groups.

It has crossed my mind that many Trolls dearly wish to see a response
-- ANY response.

Therefore, would it not be in the best interests of the groups to
simply *COMPLETELY IGNORE* *ALL* posts made by Trolls? I believe that
absolutely no response to their baiting would soon cause them to move
to other more fertile domains.

Besides that though I'd like to say a hearty thank you to all members
who make usefull suggestions to many of the legitimate questions on
these groups.

First,
I am not a troll, but a certain fellow named Brickston has been clogging
up the group for at least the last 3 months trying to nit pick
everything I have ever said. He is now forever in my kill file so that
we may get back to normal bike related stuff. There was a fellow named
Ed Dolan who seems to have given up, but the rest of us are cyclists,
some road fanatics, and some road and MTB (me), so there will be
collisions sometimes. Political topics pull us off course once in a
while but those (usually) fade in about a week.

Mr. Baka is too guileless to be a troll. Not everyone is blessed with
clarity of recall, and who among us has not occasionally given in to

Just about every newsgroup has a small population of nitwits. It's
been my experience that ignoring them does not make them go away. It
must be that whatever genetic short-circuit that impels them to behave
like idiots also renders them unable to go away when their act gets
old.

Sure, killfiles can be effective but some of the more determined
trollers will use several aliases and/or numerous proxy accounts and
it's just not practical to try and filter them all.

And what's the point anyway? If you're the type of person that's
going to get all worked up by the contributions of a moron, then
practice a little self-restraint. No one forces you to participate in
an unmediated forum and no one is holding your hand down making you
open the topic.

Bottom line, you're not going to stop the trolls and you're not
going to stop the folks that reply to them so, instead of trying to
alter other people's behavior, alter your own and either don't open
the posts or stay out of newsgroups.

I can't figure out why, if someone so vehemently disagree with a troll
that they just HAVE to reply to it, they have to quote the whole thing!
Folks, that just makes one more repetition of the garbage, only this
time it's in a post by the respondent, not by the troll.

I have added some filters to killfile different peoples responses to
each other. Certain peoples response to BBaka, Ozark and Frank, Ozark
and JFT. I haven't needed any others yet.

Unfortunately it's code written for my own newsserver, so I can't share
it with most people. I promised a copy to someone, but I haven't
responded to their email.

ObBike: Finally added a decent brake to the fixed gear. I decided it
was easier to ride that to work than to swap pedals and
everything that would be necessary to use my CrossCheck. It's
currently setup for my brother who is visiting.

do manage to [censored] me off quite a bit. Sorni and others I just take as an
occasional snipe.
