Lance Armstrong, cancer survivor, member of the President's Cancer Panel, founder of the Lance
Armstrong Foundation, and five-time winner of the Tour de France, is anchoring a bicycle tour across
America to raise awareness of cancer research and the vital importance of clinical trials. This Tour
of Hope will conclude with a visit to the National Institutes of Health on Friday, October 17, and a
closing ceremony on the National Mall the next day. I encourage you to take action in support of
cancer research and a very special event at NIH.
On Friday, October 17, at the Masur Auditorium in the NIH Clinical Center from 11:30-12:15, Lance
and a contingent of cyclists will speak to NIH to emphasize the value of clinical trials. It is my
pleasure to invite you to join us in this salute to the Tour of Hope endeavor and those involved in
cancer clinical trials. To accommodate persons interested in seeing Lance Armstrong, dedicated
cyclists, and trans-NIH support for clinical trials, additional shuttle service is available from
10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. from Executive Plaza North.

participate in this event, please call Eugene Marquis at 301-402-9686 by the Thursday prior to the
event so we can discuss your needs. Sign language interpreters will be provided.
NCI is pleased to participate in the NIH salute to the Tour of Hope, which will be a fitting tribute
to cancer researchers at NIH and others whose clinical trial work, collaborative arrangements, and
cancer communications ultimately work together to provide hope to cancer patients and survivors,
their family and friends, and individuals who may be helped through cancer prevention and early
detection.
