Because of the age of the hub, I think that this would be the correct tool.

I'm not sure if this tool will work with pre-1999 hubs.
The string/floss idea seems like a good idea, but I'm afraid that I am not
quite adept enough to pull it off (no pun intended). I have this feeling
that I am going to be looking for small springs on the floor of my workspace
late at night, cursing myself for losing the original tool (if I ever really
had it).
Thank you Carl.
Dear David,
Branford Bikes seems to say that the basket dingus will work on just
about anything short of the pawls on the Queen Mary's anchor capstan:
"The Campagnolo Freehub Pawl tool is worth its weight in gold. The
umbrella shaped tool easily holds those slippery, spring loaded pawls
in place, on any freehub. Simply slide the bottom of the umbrella over
the pawls and then easily slide the freehub into your hub's body. Pull
the umbrella towards you while pushing the freehub into the hub. Fits
Campagnolo, Shimano, Zipp, Mavic and almost every other freehub made."

For the price, I'd just buy the basket tool. Lots of places sell it.
I suspect that this is why the earlier wire-clip dingus that you're
looking for (ut-hu080) is no longer available--the entirely different
basket dingus (ut-hu090) replaced it.
Cheers,
Carl Fogel
