Do you buy bits & pieces online??

A lot of people on the forum buy from probikekit.com (there's a link for them at the bottom of the front page) We've bought some stuff from them and were impressed with the speed of delivery, I haven't tried clothes from them because I find their sizing system a bit odd but my husband bought a pair of bibs which he seems to be happy with.

The only clothes I have bought online, are knicks from Ground Effect in NZ (groundeffect.co.nz) - they are really good, straightforward size chart, quick service and the knicks are brilliant.

www.torpedo7.com - tyres, chains, cassettes etc. NZ based

Both sell the consumables like tyres and chains for about 50% or more less than local retail.

Oh yeah and like Matagi says, Ground Effect clothing is the ducks nuts

They have some good prices. I bought some 10 panel cannondale bibs for $82 or so. Quite happy with them. Took 4 days to get to Sydney. Postage goes up as items go up though.

Otherwise, I go to probikekit. I like the flat $19 postage and their delivery is also quick. Cant go past the road tyres...

I've bought heaps online, including 2 complete road bikes, shoes, helmet, tires, tubes, cycleputers, parts inclucing seat posts, gloves, tools, pedals, pumps, bike stand...

I love checking all the online stores for the specials and am on the email list of several. These truely are real discounts, not fabricated ones or just 5% off. As said, you can get 50% off.

So I either go the online shops for their specials, or simply ebay it... ebay is good for opportunist buys...

Ordered from Probikekit on Friday morning, received goods Tuesday morning (half way around the world.)

Keep the total value (incl. postage) below A$1000 and there is no duty/taxes applicable.

Just got a Cateye Astrale (sp?) (computer with cadence), some gloves, a jersey, 2 saddle bags (one for the GF) and a multi-tool from Probike kit. Ordered last Sunday arrived 8 days later. This compares with my nightmare experience attempting to order from Performace Bikes in the USA - 7 e-mails, 4 phone calls over a month and a 1/2 and nothing to show for it - incompetent bloody idiots couldn't organise a beer a brewery. At the end I concluded that they couldn't be bothered making the effort and didn't want my business. Very happy with Probike and will be shopping there again in the future.

Will also continue to buy stuff from my not so local (40km away), local bike shop down in Newport, Melboure. The guy makes his own line of clothes (X Training is the brand i think) - which I love and the fact that it's excellent value and made in Oz is a double bonus.

If you do exceed AU$1000, you pay gst on the entire product. ie if its AU$1001, you pay $100.10 gst.

Frames and Forks get 5% Duty, then the 10% GST on top of that. all other bike components are duty free (so just the GST component to pay if you go over $1000 - as stated above)
