I am having some pain in my hip. Some days my hip feels completely fine. Other days I'll have joint type pain deep in my left hip, it feels like it is deep in my butt. I wake up some mornings and can hardly roll over to get out of bed. I limp with the pain until ibuprofen takes it all away.
On the days it feels fine and I ride, their are no symptoms while riding at all. The flare-ups don't seem to correspond to anything.
I am an avid road and mountain biker. I will be taking an entire week off while on vacation next week. Hopefully that will help.
Has anyone had any experience like this? Or know what may be causing it? It almost feels like a pinched nerve.
Yes, I had this problem very chronic. There was a time my hips and knees used to hurt so much I was reduced to crawling and hobbling out of bed in the mornings. It was like fire and burning in my hips. I tend to get some repeat symptoms in Spring which I suspect (in my case) is triggered by pollen and hayfever. I discovered a number of ways you can combat this. First of all, I did notice the problem ceased when I went to live in Russia for a time and that's what made me discover the effects of diet (and possibly climate) on the joints. Have you tried ditching red meat for oily fish and reducing certain acidic foods? Experimenting with diet can reduce joint inflammation. Prolonged use of glucosamine may also help. Hip-strengthening exercise on machines could likewise be of benefit and the cycling you do shouldn't really damage your hip - it made mine better in the long run. Regular anti-inflammatories offer a temporary remedy while you rest and stretch.

Not that I'm calling you old, but have you tried taking glucosamine? It is a supplement that really helps when joint pain is a constant.
I've never heard of that. I'm 28 years old. Have been seriously biking for almost 3 years now and haven't had this problem.
I'll look into it. I do enjoy red meat. Perhaps I need to switch things up(diet) a bit with the new level of stress I am putting on my body. I have really ratcheted up the training level this year.
Diet definately plays a major role. Other than that, I've found glucosamine to help BIG TIME and I'm not ancient either (I'm 24)... it even seems to work well on my arthritic hands.
