    Dumbass,

You forgot his time: 47.44.21, which is +5.55. All of the young'ins
from the TIAA-Cref development team beat him.

How'd they arrange this? Doesn't one normally have to have a pro
license in order to compete in a pro event? And by that, the
individual would at least have to be a Cat 1 to qualify for that.

How'd they arrange this? Doesn't one normally have to have a pro
license in order to compete in a pro event? And by that, the
individual would at least have to be a Cat 1 to qualify for that.

Who told you someone has to be a Cat 1 to become Pro? Clearly wrong.

Not clearly wrong. A few years ago anyone of any category could buy a
Pro license but over the last couple of years people have needed to be
a Cat 1 in order to get a Pro license. When this first started there
was a bunch of people pushing to get Ct 1 upgrades so they could be on
    various domestic Pro teams.

I am aware of AT LEAST one cat 2 who turned pro in the past couple of
    years...I'm sure there are more.

  8. The rules provide that if a pro team signs a rider then the sanctioning
body (USAC in this case) licenses the rider at the level necessary to
    ride with that team.

There was a current Cat 3 in the Tour of Utah who the race announcer was
tagging (not tapping!) for a pro contract next year.
