Yes you can take it to the PO, but check the size & weight restrictions on
www.royalmail.com

It may be cheaper to use a courier firm who will collect from your house,
though they also have restrictions. The bloke won't necessarily be
bothered to measure your parcel, though. Some of these are just agencies
and ParcelForce or some other company will actually do the job. Strangely
cheaper and more convenient than using ParcelForce direct.

I've posted a few without problem - strip them down as much as possible, pad
everything and try to think about things like not stressing cables and
padding rub points. Use a heavy duty box and oodles* of brown parcel tape. I
always use my local (small) PO as they are very helpful, less likely to
quote the rulebook at you and not full of psycho pensioners from hell like
the bigger PO in town (yes, tsking and tutting can act like water torture
after 10 minutes...)

ParcelForce works great for overseas shipments. It's cheaper to ship
a bike via ParcelForce to the USA, than to ship a bike from Canada to
the USA. Its cheaper to ship a freewheel via ParcelForce to the USA
than to ship a freewheel ACROSS the usa via USPostal.

I would think that ParcelForce would be just as economical and great
domestically as well as internationally.
